dang thats nice, but something doesnt look right in the engine bay. Doesnt look like a thirdgen engine bay.

Somethings up with those inner fenderwells! Look at not just how large they are, but the positioning of the strut plate mounts. They're much further inward. I'm wondering if those parts were taken from a 4G donor car as well. Heck everything else is! Great looking interior, actually great looking entire car. Thats amazing.

I'm thinking the same thing. Aside from the fenders not being thirdgen, even the firewall and cowl are not from a thirdgen. I would think it's a 4th gen, but doesn't the 4th gen LT1 set farther under the cowl? And a 4th gen's cowl has more curve to it. Definitely interesting...

They may have grafted in a 4th gen inner structure, and re used the radiator support. It would work, as long as the top rails for the fenders matched up and the mounts for the nose.

This would also change the angle of the shocks.

Pretty Sweet!

Looks like he took the fender wells and firewall from a 4thgen and grafted them into the 3rdgen. That would be much easier than doing the whole 3rdgen body on a 4th.

Nice work getting the interior on the car too. Excellent craftsmanship. I like the headlights and paint too.

i remember seeing a car just like that in an older super chevy magazine, but it had a built tpi - not LT1, what looked much more like a 3rd gen engine bay, billet 17" wheels, 93-96 4th gen dash, cavalier grey lether seats i beielve, but it had the same paint. it just struck me since they both had those same headlights: those one piece 80's monte carlo lights. few years back though... 96 or something? weird how my memory was activated with just those headlights though lol


edit: OK i totally didnt see that scanned picture before i posted LOL i liked it so much better the old way! why would you get rid of those billet looking wheels for the ZL1's? i thought the interior before was more unique too, but hey, its his car

Well I must say, the guy put alot of time and money into making everything look like a factory fit. The engine bay is just beautiful and the interior was done very well for a conversion. My only thing is, if you want a 4th Gen interior, engine, drive train, and suspension, why dont you just by a 4th Gen. The whole idea behind owning a 3rd Gen is because its a 3rd Gen. I like the 3rd Gen interiors, they are not as plush which in my opinion, that is how a muscle car or race car should be. Just my .02

if u look at the firewall all he did was remove everything and anything he didnt need becuz obviously he doesnt drive it in the rain. so he didnt need the wiper, the wiper motor, or the place between the window and the firewall so he covered it and smoothed it all out. its definately a 3rd gen but with a crap load of work done to it.

lol, man, it doesnt matter how many elements from a certain car you are using... So if you decide you want to use your 4th gen mirror, 4th gen seats (which are way more comfortable than any 3rd gen seat I've sat in, cept for a Turbo TA), and maybe one day you decide you want to run 4th gen wheels cause a buddy can get them real cheap, shouldnt you have bought a 4th gen?

A stock LT1 engine is a great platform to start with, and they respond very well to mods. I'm not all that familer with the suspension setup on a 4th gen, but from what I've heard, the 3rd gen is superior, but hey, that guy wanted it, so he used it. Not everyone wants that "race car look" on the inside of their cars. I, and I'm sure many others, drive their car often and appreciate an interior thats easy on the eyes. I just dont like the look of a 3rd gen interior, and since the 4th gen interior sounds like its a fairly direct swap, why not put it in there so I can enjoy my interior, as well as take pride in doing something myself?

If everyone in the world had the "Why not just buy a 4th gen" mentality, there wouldn't be any hot rods out there. All of you guys that ask "why" and not "why not?" need to realize that there are people out there who ask "why not?". If nobody ever inovates, where will progress come from? If everyone thought that stuff was "good enough", where would the stuff thats better come from? I guess this all spawns from what your view of "better" is compared to the next guy...

I'll be happy with my 3rd gen with 4th gen interior, and you'll be happy with your 3rd gen with your 3rd gen interior.

I wasnt being mean, i was just saying that putting a big block in a third gen has nothing to do with putting 4th gen mods on a 3rd gen.

The firewall is 4th gen...most people don't recognize it because you rarely see one! The booster and MC are as well as the inner fenders and radiator support. I'd love to see what he did with the front suspension and K-member. As a 4th gen owner, I'll tell you why not "just buy a 4th gen"...they're not built as well, they're harder to work on (due to engine placement), and to me its far cooler to improve an older car than just buy a new one. Anybody can do that. My next car will use a 4th gen engine and trans, rear brakes, master cylinder, mirrors, and a 4th gen style hood, but it will still be recognizable as a 3rd gen. Excellent work on this car!
