Alternative uses for header-wrap

Alternative uses for header-wrap
I'm wondering if anyone here knows the properties of header-wrap.... I'm far too lazy to remove and wrap my headers (not to mention they're equal-length shorties, which would take a long time to do)....so I'd rather wrap all of my intake tubing and my MAF sensor to keep the heat out. Now I know header-wrap will keep a LOT of heat confined to the headers...but does it also block out heat? I basically just want to know if I can use it as an effective intake shield.

Well, header wrap is a fiberglass insulator. Kinda like a Thermos---Keeps cold things cold and hot things hot. It will insulate the intake, but I'm not so sure this would have the desired effect. The intake, even on a Mustang, is aluminum and will conduct heat very well.
The real question becomes, does an intake get hot from high compartment temperatures caused by the exhaust, or from conducting heat from the coolant and heads?
I have a feeling wrapping your intake will only raise it's temperature.

Besides, the header wrap is kinda messy. If you don't have it wrapped tight & neatly around whatever tube, you *will* get fuzz everywhere, which is very irritating to the skin (itches for a day or two...). The aluminized heat barrier stuff is better suited for that, and has the aluminized barrier to reflect heat away (like starter heat wraps, etc...). Also, the orange silicone coated fiberglass hose wrap is great for keeping heat off tubes/hoses/wires, but usually isn't cheap. Why can't you wrap the headers while they are in the car?

Why use header wrap or whatever else when there is a product on the market that is designed for your exact need.

askulte: I COULD wrap them, I suppose, but it would be a royal pain in the ***. I've got equal-length shorties and a compact engine bay. That would not be a fun project.
jichniow: My Mustang's setup isn't aluminum.... The upper and lower are far too heavy to be aluminum.... And as for the intake tubing....half of it's that rubbery type of material, like the type of material used for rubber PCV couplings, but tougher. And the MAF and airbox are plastic. (Stock MAF was metal however.)
