Garage door openers, what are you guys running.
I picked up a Chamberlain 1/2 HP belt drive opener to replace the old noisy Genie screw drive. It was on sale or whatever so i picked one up. I hated not being able to leave at night without waking everybody up. Anyways heres a link of the difference in sound. If the guy in the video would have lubed up the rollers on the garage itself, it would been much quieter. peace. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENw44t4dYUs

I'm using a 25 Hp gas powered Craftsman belt drive, with a 3 speed belt drive. It goes from down to up in 1.3 seconds. I've got fully rollerized vinyl wheels to keep the noise down. It's not enough to keep my neibhors from hating me but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I've had the 1/2 hp Chamberlain chain-drive for 2.5 years now and it's still going strong. It's a little noisy, but it gets the job done and was cheap.

No, it's 25 HP. I'm using a Kawasaki motor from riding lawn mower. It's
kind of loud, but damn is it fast. I'm a little worried about killing somebody
under the door but I'm extra careful when lowing it, since gravity is helping
and it can close in under 2 seconds. Raising is a little slower but I'm not
going to complain about it.

Umm don't mean to be a party pooper but last i heard this site was a site for third generation F-body cars, not a site to discuss garage door openers? and isnt this section supposed to be aftermarket products for our cars?? not our houses/garages? just my 2 cents, not trying to be a harda$$

Re: Garage door openers, what are you guys running.
I've got experiance with basically every type of garage door opener your could imagine (as far as residential goes.)
A Genie screw drive is by far the best unit you can buy. It's a direct drive system, so there's no parts to wear out other than the motor and the control board. The entry level screw drive is pretty noise (as well as the really old ones), but the newer ones with the sleek looking cases emit a high pitched ring and nothing else. Extremely quiet.

This one is pretty tempting because of the price. I only have a 8ft wide door and am going to buy one within the next week. 1/3hp though, and 38lb limit. Do I dare get it?

I use the genie excelerator. They go up about twice as fast as a standard opener. I have 3 doors and these openers have been on for about 6 years with no problems.

Craftsman screw drive here. Love it. Don't ever want herky-jerky chain drives like dad had back when i lived with him.
