I ordered Some "dynomat like" soundproofing from a company called Fatmat sound controll. I spent 170 dollars, and never recieved the product. I tried their Email. It got sent right back saying the address does not exist. I tried their number, and it has been diconnected. I went to the BBB and tried 6 different numbers that they had, and all but one were disconnected. The one that worked was a dating service.
Long story short, they took my money, and riped me off big time, and I dont want to see anyone else go through this. They even have a site on ebay, but they use the same fake phone numbers there as well. They look like a reputable company, but buyer beware, dont be fooled by this one.
Go to your local lumber yard and get Ice Gaurd and a heat gun. The stuff works just as well as Dynamat if not better you just have to get it good and hot before you install it. I use this on everything, I have it on the roof of my black prelude and have never had it droop, stink, or run anywhere. I also used some paint on roofing sealer in the bottom of that cars trunk and have had 0 problems with it. You will hear people say that the stuff used in car audio is different/better than what you can get at a your local lumber yard but it isn't! The only way it's better is if you spring for the butyl sound deadening but then you run into the problem like you have here. I hope things work out for you, I'de start bombarding their eBay email. Also try and charge back the money you sent them.
Well it looks like my bank is going to refund my money. So I certanly hope that is the case.
Good idea on going to the lumber yard, I would have never thought of that. I did hear of a person using a rubber roof material with good results.
That sux man, I am sorry to hear you had trouble. I got 100 sq ft. of the stuff like a year ago. They took a bit too long to get it to me, so I had to e-mail them about it, but they got it to me a couple days later. Here it is in my car.
I drove the car with none in the doors for a week, then added it on the skin and the frame of the door, NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE. Too bad they suck now. Good luck with other stuff. The product is basically tar with an aluminum foil backing. There are def other ways to get the job done, it was just nice to have it in a roll, that I just cut/peel/stick.

Does anyone know how much of this product it takes to coat the interior of our F-bodies???? This idea is pretty good for those deep corners and wierd curvatures that plague our sheet (sheeeeet...) metal. Hmmm. Their website isn't working very well, nor do they have very good product descriptions. Nitro

Well that depends on what you consider the "interior". If you're ripping every square inch out and doing behind the dash, or if you're just doing the floor, or including the doors, or what. I bought a 20ft2 pack ("truck pack") of damplifier pro and some heatwave pro to do behind my dash. Excess will get used in places that will need it for the time being. Then the rest of the car is going back together so I can get it drivable (it has no engine right now, either) and I'll tackle the rest later. But I should be able to tell you just how much the "trunk pack" covered. Possibly supply pictures.
I picked up a 1 gallon can of roofing tar stuff with mineral reinforcement and used it in the trunk of my Prelude, put it in with a ceramic space heater in the trunk during the winter and let it cure outside in the cold. This stuff hasn't peeled, ran, or given me a bit of problems since I got it done. It did smell pretty bad for a while before it dried but now it's awesome.
I did every square inch of my car, including A-pilars, the quarter panel skins (as in the area behind the speaker holes), roof, trunk, EVERYWHERE...
Took me about 100 square feet... Go to my CD site and you can see how it looks.
What company did you use? How well has the "stickyness" held up with use? I am as of now trying to find a reputable company that I know will work and cover the whole interior of my car as well...
The hardware store stuff works well, but it's heavier than some of the other products, and it also could come unstuck in high heat areas. I would certainly think twice about putting it on upside-down surfaces like the roof, especially if you live in hot climates. I've had no problems with it on the doors of my Camry, but I've talked to a lot of guys who put it on their roof and trunk lids, just to have it come off and make a royal mess of their car.
Here's a great website for anybody who wants to find out what will be best for them:
This guy's testing may not be labratory-quality, but it should help give you a real-world idea of what deadener is the best, and maybe which is the best value.
I wanted to use dynamat origional for the entire car, but it came out to be WAY too much $. So After buying 50 sq ft or so, I witched over to Fatmat, and bought 100sq ft. (I still have a little left over).
I double layered the firewall with daynamat, and then ran out of it by the time I got around the tranny tunnel. Then the 100 sq ft of fatmat lasted me the rest of the car and then some. Sounds like it is working to me. I also don't have a "system" and never will, but the radio sounds nice and I can talk to people in my car now. I bet there are better products than the stuff I used, but for the $, 100 sq ft of fatmat was about 100 bucks. Where as dynamat was more than double that.
So I heard back from Fatmat. After 1 month of not hearing from them this is what they send me.
"Hello this is an automated message to let you know why your order may have been delayed in shipping. We had to switch our internet service which caused the phones and emails to be down. We are back in full operation. Our customer service hours are Mon - Fri 10:30am - 5:00pm You will be directed to voicemail occasionally through the day Our number has changed to "
It does not take one month to change service providers, does it??
I just finished up installing a 50 square foot pack of fatmat in my brothers 99 Formula-.It was really easy to install but very time consuming. Were going to be putting the car back together and testing it in another day or so, I will def let you guys know how it sounds when we are all done.
It shouldn't take a month to switch the service provider, but if they had to switch equipment with it, then it might take that long. I know IBM used to pull that crap with networking materials. Every part had to be IBM to use the network design. That was years ago though (lots of years haha). Good luck regardless.
The hardware stuff DOES come in different flavors, the gutter gaurd stuff they sell at Lowes is garbage DO NOT use that in your car (it's in small strips and the tar is low grade, tacky, and has a low metling point). I have a Bender lumber in my town and the stuff I got from them has stayed perfectly secured to my truck roof and cab for over a year now (also a black truck). The stuff is still holding in the doors of my Prelude, and the reinforced paint on roofing tar is still holding well on the trunk lid, floors, and sides of the Prelude trunk (Prelude belongs to my sister now). The stuff you want will peel off and won't even feel that tacky, it takes a heat gun to install it; heat the stuff until it's REAL tacky and heat the panel you're putting it on. I'de also do it at night and keep the car in the shade the next day to give it some time to set up. Also ALWAYS do our roof. You get quite a bit of road noise through your roof. Focus on your wheel wells in the back, and on the large panel your fuel tank sits behind.
I agree, don't neglect your roof. I payed a lot of attention to the inside of the fire wall. I think it payed off, as all I can hear is me exhaust with the windows up. My motor makes a little more noise than a stocker since it is all forged and all.
I just placed a small order with Second Skin Audio and got the package yesterday. Unfortunately I ordered Firewall, but received regular Spectrum.
I notifed them via email last night, and I got an email today from Ant, the owner apologizing for the screw up, along with a tracking number for the correct product and a message telling me to keep the Spectrum on them for the trouble.
That's excellent customer service. Even if it's not the cheapest stuff out there, the prodcuts are worth it and if they are willing to go out of their way for even a small order like mine that is a company I want to do business with.

Do you know how much this stuff weighs ? Im just wondering
Not much.... I would say the 100 Sq feet weighs 20 Lbs or something like that. I installed it over a year ago, so I am not a great source, but yeah, its not that much. Def not going to slow your car down, haha.
