classic industries

I order direct fit replacement fuel lines and brake lines from them and boy was it a nite mare. I've order these before the beging of the year. Went to install to day and the fuel lines where a mess not a direct fit. The bends where at the wrong places and the wrong way. Tried to salvage but that did not turn out to good. Needless to say i was not able to use them at all.

Re: classic industries

I've had some pretty bad luck with them also. Tried to return something and got ripped off.

Re: classic industries

Yeah there have been a few people on this board who aren't happy with classic industries, a search should turn up a few more stories similar to this one.

Re: classic industries

I tried to order 3 nose and side 3" Bird decals from them. They were to be the white ones with the clear backing. The first three had 3-10 specks of dirt on the back of the decal in the adhesive. I tried to return them, but they told me the decals were not returnable despite telling me previously that I could return them as long as they were not removed from the paper backing (which they were not). I ended up buying a second set of 3. Exact same issue. These even had some blue print spots on them. I called and complained again. They told me in a reluctant tone they would "make a one time exception" and send me 3 for free. They only ended up sending 2. They even told me they would personally check these two for dirt. The invoice said they were checked. Same issue, and in fact one of them looked like it had a cookie or bread crumb between the decal and the paper. At this point I peeled one back to see if the dirt stuck to the back of the decal and just wasn't on the paper. My suspicions were confirmed and the dirt was on the back of the decal and couldn't be taken off. I called and spoke a manager. He told me no one has complained of this before. I told him to check these decals they have in stock. He did and saw the dirt on the 2 in their stockroom. He agreed to refund the 6 decals I bought. He called the manufacturer and told me that the manufacturer said this grit/dirt was part of the manufacturing process and there was nothing they could do about it! Then, I got a partial, not full refund. Had to call a second time to get this error corrected. Got a partial refund of the amount owed again. Had to call a third time until I finally got all my money back like I should have in the first place. The last sales rep who finally got my full refund was very apologetic. I told him this was my first experience with Classic and plan on restoring 2 Firebirds and using many of their parts. I asked them what they were going to do to make this right and compensate me for my time. He didn't say a word. Classic Industries? Never again!!!

Re: classic industries

Anything reporduction that I've bought from them has been a piece of crap. I also ordered some thing from them for 150.00 but had to return it because it was damged. then when they got it they didn't refund it because it was damaged WTF. the told me I was on my own and to file a cliam with UPS. I got 100.00 back so I'm still out 50.00 puls shipping, needless to say I will never order from them agian. They like to give lots of free stuff to tv shows but then treat paying customers like trash.

Re: classic industries

My dad has bought a lot of things for the 68 Camaro my mom bought new that he was restoring, namely some underhood decals, the chrome spears that go on the rockers, emblems, and I *think* bumpers, the only thing he bought NOS GM was fenders, a quarter panel, and hood, back in the 80s.

So far, he hasn't had too big a problem; some of the decals adhesive has worn off so it doesn't stick, but he also bought it 10 years ago and it sat in the garage all that time, garage is unheated/uncooled. He just put the chrome spears on not long ago and had no issues with them, the bumpers were put on years ago and they work and look great, maybe they were original GM bought through them? I dunno.

Me personally, I won't buy anything through them. You can get much better pricing on better products through other vendors, Classic seems to think their stuff is made of gold or something.

Re: classic industries

Did it state it was a direct fit? Do you have a link? You may be able to dispute with your credit card.

I'd like to comment, after restoring a 82 Corvette from ground up I haven't found anything in reproduction that I didn't have to make it fit.

A lot of this stuff is made overseas, and even if it isn't quality control sucks on repro parts.

Someone show me something that someone has bought in a reproduction of an original part that was exact or even better than the original factory offering.

EDIT: I tried to look and see if it said "direct fit" as you stated in your first post and couldn't find anything for the Firebird lines...I did find this for the camaro

Nothing in that paragraph mentions a "direct fit". Not taking their side, that's how they get you with words like OEM & Pre-fitted. Just because it's OEM or Pre-fitted doesn't mean it will drop in place...we as buyers assume that.

84-85 CAMARO/FIREBIRD FRONT TO REAR BRAKE LINE KIT OEM
Brake Line Kits: 4 and 6 Cylinder Enters Front of Valve. Reproduction brake lines for your early model Camaro are now available in OEM material for a stock look or stainless steel material which offers a longer life span and custom look! Each kit includes all the necessary components. We keep a large inventory on hand for quick delivery! Note: Front to rear brake line kits are shipped double oversize. All lines have the correct coded fittings. All lines have been pre-fitted for easy installation. Each line is machine double flared for a safe, no leak fit. All lines are clearly labeled for your convenience. Reproduced with the discriminating restorer in mind.

But I'm glad you brought this issue up so others will know what to expect....if you can post the part number that will help too.

Re: classic industries

^Ha, even the so called AC Delco stuff today is made overseas. I ordered two new fan relays, they looked alike, but the old ones said "Made in USA' and the new ones said "Made in Taiwan".

Our cars are being turned into imports one piece at the time.

Re: classic industries

i never had a problem with them. also if you buy fromthem you get a 20% discount sent to you like every 3-4 monthes. so i would buy somethign cheap then wait till they sent out their discount and spend a chunk of money. also i was working on a 68 firebird. so maybe they have better parts for the older cars then the 3rd gens? who knows.
