hsr fuel rails

has anybody made their own rails for the hsr, or modified the unregulated ones with any success( added a regulator)? i cant justify the increase in price for the regulated rails.

If you can get a HSR regulator later it bolts on in place of the non-adjustable one.

I modified my fuel rails for an external regulator which required cutting off the part where my stock HSR regulator went, drilling, tapping and machining a 6AN o-ring fitting onto the end (the lip has to be a certain angle, I think it was 12 degrees).

im thinking of getting generic sbc rails to modify for the hsr, or going the lt1 intake route. the price for the hsr is good, but they think their fuel rails are golden! now the unregulated ones are almost 200.00! i wonder which one is more cost/ time effective if i do the work myself.

If you have access to a mill then there is no comparison.
Rail stock is around $36.
I prefer the stock Holley style O-ring boss fittings.
With the NPT tapped ends you have to be a little more careful about overtightening. Althought the o-ring style will require replacement rings every so often. The won't leak is the plus to them.

The stock HSR fuel rails are 6-AN O-ring fittings.

Actually they are saginaw o-ring fittings. I found this out the hard way.

A -6an fitting won't screw in, slightly different thread. The adapters they give you are 3/8" saginaw o-ring to -6an. I had to order one because holley didn't give me enough, and the tech guys on the phone refused to send me one (even though I feel it should have come in the kit, but since the kit didnt have ANY parts list, or instructions I had no argument).

A Russell 6AN O-ring fitting went right into the side I didn't machine when I changed my hoses.

O-ring boss is so much more common.
Saginaw doesn't make sense.
I'll have to take one of my Holley provided fitting to the hyd shop tomorrow and re verify. I already did once and they handed me an o-ring boss IIRC. Should be what you are refering to as AN o-ring.
There are two styles IIRC. One has a jam nut style setup and the other has an o-ring groove. The threads are different.
O-ring boss is straight thread IIRC. (MS)
