Congrats The steel hood is easy to take off by your self. Just put the car outside, then unbolt everything and sit on top of the motor push up on the center of the hood and then lunge it forward catapulting it away from the car. Or pick it up in that position and carry. Its not reall heavy just a large object to pick up. I used that technique 4 times that I've removed my hood and put it back on.

I agree. If you cut that space out and make a little custom black grill it would look awesome. Either way nice choice of hood.

i had thought about it, but i don't trust myself to do it, and i don't feel like payin a shop to do it for me. if i end up not selling my car, i'll put it on my car and get it painted, and have the "cut-out-area-that-actually-isn't-cut-out" painted black, while the other parts of cowl are red...just to make the cowl parts stick out a little more

yeah if i don't get it cut out, i'll def. get it painted black.....what kind of rubber seal could i use around the hole though? i could manage making my own screen.....but what would i use to seal it and how could i attach the rubber seal to the hood?
i just test fitted the hood a minute ago, but took it off again before i remembered to take some pics i need to drill the screw holes on the hood bracket (the oval shaped ones) a little bit longer, because the furthest up the hood gets is about 1/4 in. short from where it needs to be, so.......my dad was helpin me hold it up, but he's leavin so i gotta wait for a buddy to come over and help me, but it shouldn't be too much longer......also, what'd yall use to remove the tape and sticker goo? goo gone would prob. work but i don't have any.....what else would work?

took a while to get it to fit just right.....had to drill the oval screw holes 1/4 in. longer so the hood wouldn't be too short in the front, but overall an excellent fit. ASCD did a great job. all the bolts were in the perfect place, the only thing i'm still workin on is i gotta find a way to make the bracket that latches the hood down, come down a little farther. the bracket that unlatches when you pull the lever in the car (not the bracket that you manually unlatch reaching under the hood) doesn't go down far enough to latch, so i gotta buy a couple washers or something tommorow to get it down a little farther...here's the pic

I think you should paint it red with the cowl part black (opposite of the way you have it in the pic) if you must do a two-tone deal. If not, all red and get the piece cut out.

looks great guys...i love that last one...do you think somebody could switch in the z28 grille w/ the red bowtie?
i didn't mention it before, but if i got the hood painted black, and the cowl painted red, i'd be getting the rest of the car painted black too. the red stripe on the cowl would continue up onto the roof and down the back deck.
could somebody take the time to do that too? make the hood like that first pic...black w/ a red cowl, but then make the rest of the car black too, cause unless i change my mind, that's how i'll want to get it painted...thanks

as for how firm it is....uhh it's real sturdy....about 1/4 the weight of my old hood, but it's great quality....don't go with anybody but ASCD

nah i go to valdosta state, but FSU's my team (football). i wouldn't have put that plate on, but the previous owner had on a Georgia plate (not a real license plate, it said like "Georgia on My Mind" or something and had a peach......I don't know what the hell they were thinking ), so when i took it off there were screw holes in the grille, so i had to cover it up w/ something

Something I would recommend is first the wheels. I think it would balance out better is they weren't red. Also, you may have noticed that I added clear turn signals and new parking lights. Other than that, I think the red interior would look great with the exterior colors.

yeah i had planned on a new front gfx (the current one is warped a little), z28 grille, new running lights and clear turn signals if i went ahead and got a paint job. the wheels will be switched too, but only if money allows after tha paint job. depending on how much i can get a paint job for, i may or may not get wheels this summer. i'll have roughly $2500 after the summer, so if i can get a paint job for under $1500 it should be alright....just all depends on when i'm gonna make up my mind on what to do. if i can find the time (and if i feel confident enough with it), i'll do all the prep work myself so all i'll pay for is the paint and an hour or two of labor

got another question....i have silver emblems on the sides of my car (and red on the back, i don't know why they mixed it up), but i'm not sure if i wanna just leave them all off, or get red side emblems........it'd look pretty good, continuing the red/black theme, but it might be too much...here's a side pic just for reference, or if you want to photoshop it, be my guest. i'm takin off the front emblem for sure though
also, i'm undecided about whether or not i want the side moldings...and before you say it, yeah i'm getting bigger tires...these are only 235's

I just put washers between the actual hood and the hood hinges on the side that was too close to the fenders, and it fixed the problem right away....

And NO side molding, looks much cleaner without it, that's why i left it off.....

I think it'll look funny with one thick stripe on the roof and rear decklid. I say just paint the top of the cowl red, and the rest black.
Any engine mods planned (perhaps a swap) to back up the mean look?

i'll have to do a little research on it before i get it painted, but i've seen a pic of a camaro with an SS hood, and they had the cowl painted, then a stripe down the roof and deck and it looked real good. and as for engine upgrades.....it's gonna have to be put off for a little while. i was debating this summer whether to spend my money on a v-8 swap, or go for appearance first. well i ended up ordering the hood, so i'm going with appearance. don't know yet if exhaust from a v-6 will hook up to a v-8, but if it will then an exhaust and full tune-up will be my only real mods this summer. then all the money i get after that will be saved up until i have enough for the swap

If that hood was designed specifically for third generation f-bodies, it should be a prefect fit. You should have been able to just unbolt the old hood and bolt your new hood on and be set to go. Not including the insulation or anything that you need to transfer from the old hood. Unless, of course, different years third gens came with hoods that only fit those year cars. I thought all third generation hoods were interchangeable with all third generation cars.
