3rd Gen Drifting Videos
I'm not sure exactly where to put this, but since I see a lot of videos posted in these forums I figgured it would be OK. Here are two short vides we made of some 3rd gens having fun down at the track. The files are zipped to prevent streaming. Save, unzip, and enjoy. You might need to download a MPEG2 codec to view the second video:

I love seeing you guys drift! Definitely keep posting these vids!
I loved the first one.. couldn't see the second one because I don't have the codec on my work machine, I'll watch it when I get home.
I see Revlimit put his wing back on. Looks like his fender's getting a little worse for wear too.

The second vid I could watch but it froze up on me, which sucks because it looked like the better vid. Defeantly some nice shots in there.
I've been away for awhile. Last I was on your Gangreene project was pretty near stock and the tranny was failing. What have you done since then?

I have never quite understood drifting. I think it is very cool, and I know I could really ge into it, but what exactly is the goal? Are you racing around the track, being judged, or just showing off!? A lot of my friends drive like that, but on public roads (which, in my opinion is very dangerous). I wonder if there are any drifting tracks in PA? Many of my buddies drive Mustangs, so we could start our own domestic drifting club!

I guess the driver drifts so he doesnt loose speed going though the turn.

From what little I understand a major goal is to have the flashiest, most controlled pass.

Well, theres really two types of drifting. There is race drifting and then there is show drifting. What we're doing here is show drifting. So its not racing, no element of time, and most of this footage was taken during practice events, so no judging either. But there are competitions that are judged, and in those competitions you would be judged on your speed, angle, smoke, length of slide, and overall look. Drifting is a subjective sport so if you dont like the idea of subjective judging then it might not be the right sport for you to compete in. But you can still do it for fun (I do it for fun) on your free time and you really do learn a lot about car control. I think its especially good for people into roadracing because you become so familiar with crossing the line of traction (by forcing it), when you get back into the grip mindset you'll have more confidence to push the speeds and if you do lose grip you'll know how to react to prevent a crash. Even in normal driving situations it can help, for example one night I was driving to work in my old 92 B4C (sold) and it started raining really really hard. I was taking a freeway onramp (long turn) and right when the onramp transitioned from the black asphalt to the slippery white concrete the rearend lost traction and swung out. Without even thinking I countersteered and regained control. I know if I had not been into drifting I would not have known what to do to regain control. I say if it looks like fun you guys should give it a try. Beware its addicting though!! Before you know it you'll be searching for good used tires every weekend so you can go drifting. Hehehehe.
That first vid was using footage from back in Jan / Feb of 2004. The second vid is using more recent footage (some footage from earlier this month in fact). Revlimits car is now pushing around 400 hp and the Gangreen IROC got fixed! I swapped in a TH350 and its working out great. Next I'm gonna be doing suspension and brakes. Revlimits car is so loud when he drifts, it sounds insane. You can hear him on the other side of the track hahahaha. Thanks for the replies you guys!

I'm not sure. I encoded the second trailer in MPEG2 but turns out its causing a lot of people a lot of problems. So I re-encoded the video for the second trailer in MPEG1. It should now work for everyone, but I had to sacrafice a lot of quality. I couldnt even make out most of the words, but at least you can see the action LOL. Here's the link to the MPEG1 version:
http://www.powerslideways.com/video/...ler2-Small.zip (16 megs)
I'm gonna leave the MPEG2 version on the server untill I can re-encode the trailer in MPEG1 in higher quality. Its gonna be somewhere around 40 megs. So when all is said and done there will be a low quality 16 meg version and a high quality 40 meg version and both should work for everyone. Sorry about the trouble.

Hahaha yups!! I hunt for used tires every weekend and look for the "1 got a nail so replace all 4 and throw away 3" special. But its cool because I save the tire shops a tire disposal fee and after I burn them up we use them to protect the walls (and cars) at the drifting track by putting them in front of barriers. In fact, just tonight I found two nice Comp T/A 225/55/16's that I plan to get mounted tomorrow. Can't beat free!!

Revlimits car is standard. He swapped in a T56 and did the full Spohn conversion. His engine is a carb'd 350 with heads, cam, intake (Holley Systemax), and full exhaust. He also has full suspension and a bunch of chassis bracing, and the rearend is an aftermarket posi with 4.10 gears.
My green car is almost completely stock! Its definately better to have a manual tranny and roadracing oriented suspension for drifting, but I wanted to prove that you can also do it with stock stuff, just not as crazy. The IROC has the stock FE2 suspension with a Spohn panhard bar. Thats it! The engine is a stock L98 but I put in K&N filters, MSD wires (since the last set caught on fire), and a Borla XS exhaust system (but stock manifolds). The rearend is a stock 2.77 9 bolt with posi, and the tranny is now a TH350 since the 700R4 died (couldnt handle drifting).
Thanks again for the props guys!! It really is a lot of fun!

Thats the way I drove my car for 2 years on the street. I didnt know what normal driving was. Now I just cruize and get on it occasionally on the street and take the car to the track. Its fun and you guys know what your doing.
