I think i lost my mind.....
I had nothing to do all winter so i figured that i should polish my plenum, runners, plenum extension, throttle body, A/C delete pulley, alternator, belt tensioner, radiator cap, 4 rims and a fuel rail... .....
I have spend many hours polishing but in the end the results are unbelievable..and i think i need to see a chiropractor from leaning down so much..
I have used this polishing compound and i am attaching few pics...
Too bad my camera is not so good..
Let me know what you guys think..

I took every single piece out of the car and polished it in my basement. I don't drive it in the winter so the car stays in the garage..
I have sanded each piece down and then polished it using that compound and an electric drill with a buffing wheel.

Looks good! I figured if it looked like that you'd have to take it out of the car. Were removing and reinstalling the runners a big pain in the rear? It sure was for me

I just want to add that the first time i polished i used the regular Mother's aluminium polish compound and then i bought the one in the pic and pollished once more and the difference was amazing..
The newest version is worth every extra buck.

Looks GREAT!. I tried this year some zoop seal after the polish and I am hoping it will eliminate the need for the repolishing.

So did all your parts look like that dull silver before or did you buy a polished alternator plenum etc...and just repolished it...
What grit of sand paper did you use and was there any other steps to all of this or did you just remove, sand, and polish really well.

I have estimated that adding all the hours spend on removing, preping/sanding, polishing, installation it came to approx 65 hours of pure hard work..
The hardest pieces were the rims (taking clearcoat off + lots of sanding), runners, alt ( lots of turns, corners, hard to get areas).
Other pieces were not too bad.
Novass, your engine bay look beautiful as well.
Godspeed, all of the parts mentioned looked like dull silver but after some work you can make them look like chrome...It is really amazing.. My wife still can't believe the before and after difference...
As for some direction everybody has a different way..
Basically, i had to remove each piece from the car and did this:
1. dremel sanding roll 120 gritt (small role) to remove all bumps, uneven surfaces and that stupid grain /
2. sanding paper 180 ( on a palm sander - if the area was nice and flat like the plenum and extention) , 220,320, 600, 800, 1000 (all dry)
3. washed each piece brfore going up to the next grit
4. polished using the electric drill and a 6 inch buffing wheel + compund ( some very hard to reach areas i used the small dremal buffing whell )
5. used couple of my old soft t-shirts to ( not on the pic ) to rub the black sooth off each part after polishing
I have used the automotive paint stripper to removing clear coat from the rims then i just used the sand paper mentioned above + 1500 and 2000 grit..(rims i did wet)
I think that's is it for the supplies.. I don't even know why i did all this work because i will be selling this car in few months (will become a dad in few weeks and i need a nice 4 door family car).

Not much looks better then a Polished 92Z rim. This was taken back in '99
I like the new Billet Polish alot better then the Old Alum polish. Will take a better pic's when I get a chance of em now.

The thing I'm most amazed with is how the Mother's compound/polish worked so well. I've polished using "polish" like that before, and it looked darn good, but not THAT good. The only way I acheived that finish was with all the different compounds, tripoli, white rouge etc.
VERY nice. I redo my Iroc rims every spring and I'm gonna buy some of that Mother's polish

Hold on to your car. Even if you park it and cover it. You'll only wind up spending money later in life to get another one. Besides a car can be a great bonding tool with kids. Either boy or girl.
