“Homage to the TGO Cars that Have Caught my Eye.”
Alternate title – “The Best Examples of Third Gens I Think Rock.”
I would like to pay homage to the cars on this forum that have inspired me to further fall in love with my car and/or modify it to match. It is very likely that I will have forgotten many cars and even more likely that there are Third Gen cars YOU think are better. In any case, “There is no right or wrong in matters of taste.” Therefore I subject you to my tastes:
This car was the first one to catch my eye in a BIG way on this forum:
A Pontiac with a Euro slant. Just a beautiful car. The aluminum gauge bezels inspired a TGO member to get the CAD design for them and run a set for those of us lucky enough to be on the spot. This was an addition I made to my car.
Next: This Camaro. The Snypers really set this car off but to me, it’s more than that.
Behind this car is a man who readily shares his knowledge of the TBI engine. I’ve read his words, laughed at them, and then come to realize he was right all along. Thanks Shifty.
Next up is this great example of the best things about a GTA:
I swapped an email to this guy about his car telling him that if he decided to sell it to let me know. His response: HAHAHAHAHAHA!! NEVER!! I understand, brother.
Also, this car from a fellow member of the West Forum:
Believe me, this car looks a lot better in person. And the wheels! They are perfect with it. Furthermore, he is too into changing the car’s engine to keep it at 13 seconds. It’ll be faster than that soon at his rate. This is another car I have offered to buy when it goes up for sale. Not holding my breathe…
This car just has the right vibe to me. It’s gunmetal gray, it’s a performer, and the owner is a helluva guy in Georgia. The new paint does it for me.
Here’s another favorite car. It’s the right color (to me), it’s the right engine (LS1), it’s a convertible, and it’s a Third Gen with 17" Epsilon inch wheels (a lot like the GTAs). Awesome.
The owner of this car is a gentleman as well. He has been sharing his experience with the LS1 swap for the last quarter or more even after weathering the fury of Katrina in Mississippi. This car just says it for me.
Then there is Manny’s car:
The things he does with this car in the state of Virginia has been entertaining to watch. The changes this car has gone through are prime example of conspicuous consumption. Don’t go changing, Manny.
Another recent member of the convertible forum who showed up this week brought this car to my attention:
Very, very nice and shows what Hawk’s Third Gen Parts is good for. Rock and Roll!
I’ve been trying hard to either keep my car in competition with these cars or at least be a good representative of the Third Gen. This week I added some Alston SFC’s from TDS which added new life to the way the car drives:
I still want to do a bunch more and I will continue to read this forum for ideas and so forth. Hood Bird maybe? Can you tell I like Pontiacs?
Take it easy, TGOer’s. Drive the car like it is the last example on the planet.

CarNDrver's car was great. Most of you wont remember but it was a few years ago, prolly 5 or so. Not many thirdgens back then has 17" or 18" wheels. I dont remember all the details of his car but it was a blue 91-92 Z28 with 17" Boyd Coddington "tuned" wheels. He sold the car a long time ago, and I think he bought a C4 Vette
ChevyKen's car was also one that inspired me to keep with my thirdgen. Back then, he had to have one of the first thirdgens to have TTIIs. They looked great on his red IROC vert. Hes still around here, same car, different wheels.
Im trying to remember some of the "pioneers" of TGO. From 5 years ago when I joined. Theres other cars but I cant put my thumb on it. Most of these cars were owned by great guys. People like that are what make me come back here even though I dont own a thirdgen anymore.

I don't think there was a specific car that made me go into thirdgens.. I had just moved from Norway to the US and needed a car. But when the ragtop was listed in thrifty-nickel, I just had to go see as I had always wanted a conv't of some sort... when I saw it sitting in the sellers driveway - I was just sold!
Anyways, there was one picture that convinced me of getting the TT2s and that was this one:
At the time, that was the only picture of the only other thirdgen I could find with TT2s. I just loved the look of them and had to have them
Since then, a lot of cars has been of great inspiration:
First of Derek (90 Z28SS) and his gorgeous white 90 Z with the first SS hood I remember seeing. When he, unfortunately, totalled it - he let me buy the hood.
Then of course Jeff (Kandied) and his 91 which has inspired SO many of us! My favorite on his car has been the rims - so it was perfect timing when I needed new rims after doing the C5 brake swap, and got the opportunity a year ago to buy his "old" 18" Stingers.
I mean - who can't possibly be inspired by this???
And, of course - lots of you guys are a constant inspiration with great ideas, cars and attitudes to help out.
So, now would someone please stand up and be willing to sell (and ship) me a full set of 91-92 gfx to Norway
Ken

[QUOTE=mw66nova]jbenge's, absolutely amazing! made me stick with no gfx..
Thanks mw66nova. That means a lot to me. Your car is awesome, there aren't many real daily driven street cars as fast or nice as yours. Its too bad we live so far apart, it would be cool to do a photo-shoot with both our cars at the track.

Hey Ken, I don't know if you know this, but Jetcarrier aka Magnum has started delivering seafreight aswell as their excellent airfreight to us in Norway. The pricing is awsume, about 1/8 of what UPS charges, and I have been happy about their service so far. The best part is you only need guys to ship to new jersey, and jetcarrier handles it from there.
You just register free as a member, and then you can plot in the weight and size of the package, and you get the shipping price. By the way, I loved your brake setup, I hoped I could get some help from you do do mine this summer, since I'm coming down to østlandet in the summer. I'm currently in trondheim, but it's just temporary... like 5 more years....ugh.
Would have been cool if we could have a Norwegian thirdgen meet or something this summer, don't you agree? anyways, I was hoping to be able to go to the Power bigmeet this summer, would be cool if we could hook up for a chat.

Hey tilstad!
Yeah, Im aware of JetCarrier - and have used them on several occation for air freight. However, they can't handle packages from private sellers - only businesses. And that's not usually where they best buys are unfortunately..
I'd love to go to Power Big Meet, but Im probably in the US during that time. A thirdgen gathering in Norway would be awesome though! I'd be all over that!
Sure, if I can be of any help - that's all cool! Once you have the brackets and the modified spindles, it is a pretty quick job. Where on Østlandet will you be?

i'll be at every nsca race this season. whether or not the car is there is totally up to God's timing when we get a stacker trailer, but the goal is to have my car at atleast the Finals in Columbus OH. check out www.nsca-racing.net and see if your car fits into either American Muscle or Street Machine and also see if the scheduled events are going to be easy to get to for you. i keep thinking we are going to be in IL this year, but i KNOW we'll be in Ohio twice and Michigan twice.
maybe we can make this photo-shoot happen? i'll have to talk with Kody, maybe we can get his berlinetta in on it too!

Well, I have my house in Fetsund, just by Lillestrøm, but I'm mobile all over the southern part of the country since my gf's family has a house down there. Compared to the distances from Trondheim to anywhere now, I'd say Kristiansand-elverum is a piece of cake.
By the way, I have successfully used magnum with private sellers, don't know why that have given you any problem.

The only car that had any real influence on me back in ye olden days was Chuck Everly's Camaro, which has long since moved on.
It is nice seeing so many more nicely done thirdgens as of late.

As for current cars, I think Jeff's (Kandied91Z) car is really the one that comes to mind. While I don't necessarily care for all of the styling aspects of the car, and there are still things that I can find fault with, overall I think his is one of the highest caliber resto-mod thirdgens out there today, and really sets the benchmark for what a show-quality thirdgen should aspire to.
For the couple guys who mentioned me/my car, thanks. It's really nice to find out that I might have had some small roll in helping to inspire somebody to save a thirdgen from the crusher.
