What kind of clay is in the clay kits??

I had the meguiars clay kit for cleaning my paint surface. It includes some detail spray and a small peice of semi-soft clay. It works great, but i lost my clay bar. Can i just use modeling clay? I don't feel like spending $15 for a bottle of detail spray and a hunk of cheap clay.

I wouldn't risk it to save $15. I'd go to Autozone and get some Clay magic. Should be a little cheaper and works great.

No, they are not the same.

Down at TP Tools, they had JUST the clay (bigger bar, different grades) for sale. So they do sell them seperately.

Yeah, those things are NOT the same you use for modeling. There are more than one kind as well. (Mild, Aggressive, etc.) One thing to realize is if you ever drop the clay bar on the ground, discard it IMMEDIATELY. You will NOT get all the garbage out of it that winds up in it. Trust me .

You should be able to do your entire car around 3-4 times depending on the dirt level before needing another clay bar. And dont throw the old one away-use it for claying your glass-it works wonders! Have fun!

Yes, a clay bar should take off overspray. It also takes off wax, so yes you'll have to wax it afterwards. Also, the name is misleading, a clay bar doesn't actually contain any clay at all, it's all synthetic.

Depending on how severe the paint overspray is will determine what clay too use.The red or purple is around 1750-1800 grit. The grey or blue is around 2100-2200 grit. The clay will scratch the paint surface.White paint will not show scratches if you use the grey clay.It will not remove the wax but if paint is black, green, blue or a dark color I would recommmend a machine polish afterwards.A polish/Glaze then a good carnuba wax.Remove overspray from windows with #0000 steel wool & adhesive label remover for window trim. This should make your vehicle look close to new again!
