opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

ok, so kind of like the title asks/states. I want/need opinions about an idea i've had.

So I have a 85 SportCoupe, it's currently white with a black 2in cowl hood. I've seen how some camaros have the holes (i called it pocket in the title) where the headlights are, painted black.

What do you think about that?

Also I was playing Forza Motorsports 3 (which is a video game for those who don't know) and on there is a 3rd gen. so of course I bought the car. in the game I painted it white gave it a black cowl hood. then I painted the side view mirrors black. I thought it looked cool.

What do you think about that?

Haha sorry for this being long but I just want as many opinions before I do it and the general consensus is that it's a bad idea. even though it's my car and I like it I still want everyone's opinions

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

IMO white cars need to have everything either white or black - with just enough black to balance out the white so it doesn't look like it's hiding in a blizzard.

I'm a big fan of the black in the headlight pockets - to me it's a 3rd-Gen Camaro identity thing, and I think the mirrors would also look good in black, especially if you have tinted glass on the sides.

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

I have to agree with that. There's a local Trans Am that is pure white with a black spoiler. Looks nice.

Just enough black to balance it out and I think it would look good.

Edit: Also, well done using Forza for your paint scheme!

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

Haha well thats the great thing about that game, the have one camaro from each generation and even the the 3rd gen is an I-roc I can still see what it'd look like. But I am definitely leaning towards the yes and doing it.

next question, what do ya'll think about the headlight lens/cover? would it be a waste of time/money? or bad combo with painting?

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

You want to see a white sport coupe with black headlight buckets?

mw66nova has one. I will find a pic real quick:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...373-post6.html

Theres four in that link, in the next post in that thread he shows this one:

I dont think black mirrors would look good, and black buckets and a black hood look okay, but it's better to paint the hood white to match.

Definitely go with black headlight buckets. But I don't think black mirrors will look any good.

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

do the headlight buckets and you can try plasti-dip on the mirrors to see if you like them. if you dont like it you can peel it off.

that does look nice...I think I'm also going to paint my spoiler black...I need something to balance out the black in the front.

does the plasti-dip turn gloss or dull black when it sets?

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

Black spoiler just looks like you bolted a new body panel on and never bothered to paint it. Same with the mirrors. The hood can be taken as a stylistic homage to earlier muscle cars, and the black headlight buckets always look good.

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

Yes to the pockets, I think they make the car look more aggressive, and in order to complement the black pockets paint the hood white like the rest of the car and through on black stripes. No to the mirrors.

Don't know if you've figured what you want to do buts heres my 87 Sport coupe. The buckets are grey which I hate, but I'm going to paint them eventually. And sorry about the dirt, old pics and it was a rain week but shes all clean now.

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

Head light pockets for sure!!! I myselfwouldnt do the mirrors, kind looks like you got them from another car and didnt paint them, if your trying to put a little contrast on the rear, try VHT night shades for the tail lights, i done that on my purple 92. and it looked great. be sure not to spray too many coats on though or it will competely block all light coming through, 2-3 light coats will do the job.

Re: opinions on side mirrors and headlight pockets

To pull off black mirrors on a car with any color (other than black, duh) you need to tint the windows as dark as legally possible.

Take the white car above, paint the mirrors black and tint the windows dark (photoshop it) and you will see what I mean.
