Rear window louver assembly question

Hey guys. I removed my rear window louvers on my 89 iroc and disassembled them to do some repairs and give them a fresh coat of paint. I’m getting ready to reassemble them and my question is about the slat with the prop rods. I’ve seen 2 different sets of non window mounted third brake light louvers. One with the prop rods on the side pieces and the other with the rods on one of the slats. Mine is not the original set that came with the car which I found the set I have on ebay probably around year 2000. Mine has the rods on the slat. The number position stamped on the slat is 8,9,10. Does this slat go in the 10 position? When I had them on the car, the louvers would not go up very high when supported by the rods. Was thinking it could go in the 8 or 9 position instead to get more lift height when supported by the rods. Or is it suppose to go in the 10 position.

Re: Rear window louver assembly question

I have TWO sets of OEM louvers, one with each style. ....I'll check the position of mine this evening.

....if ya don't mind me asking, what paint/finish did you use? Im doing some resto work on the decklid and drip channels right now, and will be onto restoring the louvers afterwards. Don't really want a high gloss, but don't want a flat matte either. Curious what you did.

Thanks for the reply. I just used bumper/trim paint from Advance auto parts. Can get it from auto zone or other part stores as well. Doesn’t have much gloss to it and isn’t straight flat.

Got any pics? ....oh and my louvers have the prop rods on the #10 louver. As close to the rear decklid as you can get.

Dont have any pics yet of them done. Just pics from the early 2000’s when they were on the car. Just curious, what year is your car and are they the original set that came with the car when it was new. Will post pics when I get them assembled and back on the car. Be a couple days.

Re: Rear window louver assembly question

My car is an 88, and is an original DE1/Louver car, but these are NOT the original louvers. I'm not sure which would've been the older design, and which would've been update.

Got the louvers reassembled and back in the car. Ended up putting the prop rod slat back in the #10 position. Here’s a pic with them on the car.
