Ford Exploder Landing sight

One Fine day....

My brother has an 88 Camaro.. He parked it at his school, and a chick decided today was the day... She had to mess up the perfectly straight 88 with less than 100,000 miles on it..

The insurance company is trying to total it

OR they would rather not repaint the car.. YOU cant have one shiny side and one dull side.

Is there anything i could do to save the 88:hail:

NICE MIRROR

The mirror is actually pushing in on the window, There is like a 2" gap between the door edge and the window. There is no window seal that wide to block the rain.

get a lawyer and take them to court.. they'll deem it not worth the hassle and generally will pay out to you.

I really like the car.... I spent three days on building a custom sub box, that spells camaro... Otherwise i would stick it in my GTA.. Do you think they will crush the car?? I have heard of people loosing all the stereo stuff in their car when the two trucks take them to the big highway in the sky.

That's freakin ridiculous if they're trying to total that. Sounds like a bunch of lazy ******* at the insurance office. For a fairly easy fix all it would need is a complete door from a junkyard. Swap interior from old door to new plus the door lock. Take it to a body shop to have whatever dents fixed and have a paint job done or do it yourself.

If the ins. company insists on totaling it, ask them to buy the salvage on the vehicle. I've done this numerous times in the past. The car looks like a fairly easy fix.

Yeah, that minor damage is nothing to fix. If they total it, just buy it back and fix it. You should have enough left over to put some nice mods in it.

ask somebody at your local shops if they do side work alot of us do. they can most of the time fix a panel instead of replacing it. as for bondo your out of luck when you fix your car it will most probably have some mud on it

Since this is your car and the other person was at fault, they can't mandate a total unless you're willing to accept it. If you want it fixed, they legally have to fix it. Any arguments, threaten them with a lawyer!!

My dad had the same problem when he rolled his truck. The insurance wanted to total it, but he said he spent two years looking for this exact truck(option wise). He just gave them hell and they gave in and fixed it(untill I got ahold of it!). You Just have to tell them you want the car fix perioed. Good luck!

It's a base model... If they will shell out a decent amount since it had low miles and such scrap it and get something better performance wise, a nice Z or Iroc would be a sweet upgrade even with a 305 TPI or something...

like mentioned before I would get a used door from a junkyard and swap panels. The rear quarter doesn't look all that bad. A body shop can probably have that banged out in no time. Drive it around primered until you can afford a paint job or try to find a community college that has a bodyshop class and paint it yourself for the cost of paint.

I agree, that's ridiculous. If the damage was bad enough to warrant a new door, or frame damage, or BAD rear 1/4 damage (as in, car was rear-ended and the 1/4 buckled), I could see it being totalled. But otherwise the insurance company just heard "1988" and they'd rather give you $200 for the car.

That's why I never bothered with getting collision on my car. Good luck, keep us posted on the outcome! I agree though about taking it to a shop, giving them the scoop, and seeing what they say it'd cost. Ask your buddies or their parents or Someone about shops that are "good" in the area... don't just grab the first bodyshop you see.

They didn't total my 84 Z28, and I was hit so hard in the back that I couldn't open EITHER of my doors!

I showed them $4200 in receipts, and told them that I was restoring it (them referring to the guy that came to my huse to look at it)

The accident was also not my fault.

You should be fine, just fight for what you deserve!!

You better not let an other wise clean Camaro go to the boneyard! That is almost a sin, I mean if it was really totaled o could see it going the the boneyard but if it is not there is always some one looking for a half way decent thirdgen.

needforspeed, i hope that is a photoshop of your car, at first i thought it was real, but then i lokoed at it some more.

if they try to total it out, tell them that youre going to go and call your lawyer, they will change their mind. its like 2000$ in damage if that, and the car is worth more than that, get it appraised and prove the insurence wrong.

I dont' know about all ins. companies, but my friend wrecked his eclipse and it was deemed his fault, and they told him he could remove anything he wanted from the car before it was totalled, so long as he replaced it to working order.

For example, he pulled his stereo speakers, etc. and put in a stock stereo.
