4th Gen Console install help!!!

First off I am sorry it this has been brought up a million times... but I have done the searches and although all of the posts/pics are helpful they all seem to lack the "details" for this install.

First off I have a 6-speed manual center console out of a 1998 Formula and a radio/climate control pod out of a 1989 Firebird, and I am putting it in my 87 IROC automatic.

I pulled out my center console and then looked it all over... from the searches I have done everyone seems to have had 0 problems. It just bolts in perfectly...

I have seen countless pics of 3rd Gen Camaro's with this done and made to look right but mine is fighting me the whole way.

If I put the center console down and line up the two bolt holes (inside the glove box thingy) everything will fit except the 3rd gen radio pod, it just won’t fit in there nicely, it goes in but it’s too tight and squished…

I tried mount the radio pod first but then the center console wouldn’t fit right…it sits way to far back (which makes the shifter get right in the way of the top part of the console (with the ashtray/lighter etc etc) and the mounting holes in the glove box are nowhere to be seen (too far ahead)..

I’m losing patience with this!! ARRGGGHHH!!!

Does anybody have any detailed pics that they could share?? I really want this console to fit right and I know it can be done because so many others have made it work!

Any and all help would really be appreciated!!

You cut the radio pod part off your old console right? Thats what I did, and I had to jam it in there. I actually cut a goove in the front part of the console because somthing was keeping it from going all the way in. I wish I haddn't done it now, it didn't come out to great, i'm looking for another 3rd gen console now. Oh, and I just didn't bolt the thing down, it is wedged between the seats and the radio pod so tight I didn't bother.

i ended up shaving the plastic until it fit under the pod enough, but the holes didnt line up so i just screwed it in with some metal-tapping screws and its fine, the passenger cup holder rubs a tad but its ok. now i have to cut the top console part to fit my megashifter

Progress....

Well after a few beers and many curse words I have it in...somewhat.... it still doesn't fit the way I would like it to....

There is a noticeable gap as seen here...

Not sure why this part is not sitting down flush... most likely due to the shifter cable and the wiring harness that connects to the shifter itself....

Can I bend the shifter cable slightly downwards without screwing anything up??

And by looking at where the shifter boot snaps down I think I will have a problem, some of the little tabs are pressing against one thing or another....I dont have the boot yet so I am wondering if I will have a problem with that???

Overall it looks really nice...will look better when I get the leather 4th gen seats in .....

Comments please...

I cut a small groove for the cable, t hat helped it a little. Its still hung up on somthing, I never bothered to figure out what as its comming out as soon as I find another decent console.

Ok, i'm confused, thats a firebird radio pod in a camaro?

Yeah that's a radio pod out of a 89' Firebird, I have seen lots of pics of 3rd Camaro's with this pod/console.... I will have to fiddle with it tomorrow to see what it is hanging up on...maybe I will be able to grind something down to make it fit more flush....suppose it isn't too bad as it is but I would like to get it a little better.

My worry right now is the shifter boot.. I hope it will snap on in place because I don't want to pull that console out anymore!!
