I wrecked my RS last night
Yeah, I banged her up pretty bad. I was turning onto Main St to do another run of cruising (in my small town, main street isn't that big, and it's two lanes... so thats where we go to see everyone) and someone was comming down the other street too fast, and I misjudged their speed, thinking they were just comming at a regular speed, and I turned but didn't make it. They hit me in the right rear end, practically square with my tire. Damaged up from the back third of my passenger door to a few inches past the fender. Didn't hurt any glass or reflectors, but it did push alot of stuff in a good 2 to 3 inches. Even tore a hole in my side panels. From the inside you can see my speaker on the passenger side pushed out into where the panel would be. I took it off earlier because I got frustrated with it not staying... If I had had it on, it probably would have been blown off anyway.
The car that hit me pushed me into a riced-out Grand Am GT. I hit the left front corner of their body kit and bent up the front of their fender and maybe busted a headlight. That dented up my fender edges just a tad... but not too bad. I did get a piece of fiberglass wedged in my rim and wheel, just perfect so it's holding air.
The car that hit me... drove off. So I'm praying to the good Lord above that the police and insurance co. can somehow not rule it to my blame, and my insurance fix my car as well, because I have liability only. Insurane rates on teen male drivers are so outrageous, that liability is all we could afford.
I don't have any pics of the car yet, and it would be awhile before I could post them anyway, scanner is my mom's and it's on the old ancient egyptian computer, so it's real difficult to get pics onto this comp. But man I just about cried when I took my first look at the damage; and when I saw it being towed away
Anyone have any wild guesstimations as to what the price might be? I now know how sad it is to see your great looking car.... sitting with that stupid looking donut spare on it. I know how you felt with your RS ShiftyCapone, miserable.

Thats rough, I remember when I wrecked my old one... I cried for days. Alot of states require uninsured motorist coverage as part of liability but it varies. I would definately be checking through your insurance forms looking for things in your favor cause you agent isnt always going to tell you.

If I had the nerve, I probably would have chased them... but I couldn't because where they hit me, my right rear wheel was curled up and my tire was blown off the rim. Besides, then the cops woulda had two hit and runs... considering it was a 3 car collision.

this is what i would have done...
But was your tire really blown off the rim? Cause you shoulda just left your number on the windsheild of the other car that you slid into, then turned around quick and stayed behind the car the hit and ran on you and call the cops as you stay behind them... what if your tire wasnt blown off like you said it was.. what would you have done then?

Sounds like it was more your fault than the person that hit you, so maybe it's good they drove off. As far as insurance. Liability only covers the people you hit, not you. So having them cover the damage probably isn't going to happen. Because of that you might not want to tell them unless a report was filed by the police because of the other car you hit. Then in that case your ins.co will find out anyways and your ins. will probably go up. S##%#y! Let us know how things work out. Maybe other ins. co do things differantly then mine.

It's not his fault if the hit-and-runner was speeding and he made the turn legally. Leaving the scene of an accident is a seperate offense, and though it certainly weighs in 25thAnnyTtopCam's favor, it won't prevent him from possibly being fined for pulling in front of the other car if he can't prove they were speeding.

yeah liability wont cover your car.
its probably not fixable though, those rear 1/4 panels are expenisve and tough to fix.
but for the better of the doubt, get some pics

well, il ltell you right now, insurance companies hate third gen camaros, so youre screwed, they are going to total out your car. im not sure how liability works, but if it was a hit and run, if your car isnt totaled, they might fix it. and its worth the money to get full coverage. im 16 and i have full coverage on my car, thats fire and theft, liability, and collision. if i slide into a tree because its wet or something, insuance covers it. and thats only 130$ a month. i dont pay it, but its not bad for a 16 year old driving a sports car.
people, if you got hit in the back of the car, there is no way your going to chase someone. sorry, but when you get in an accident, youre in shock, thats how it goes. the person who hit you probably didnt have insurance, so he boned out. as for the car you slid into....just tell the guy that he shouldnt get anything because there shouldnt be a body kit on a grand am....

Sorry to hear the bad news. My insurance company deemed mine totaled when I wrecked it the first time a while back. And the only thing wrong was two crushed front fenders, two doors, and a cracked windshield (sandwhiched between two cars on the highway). Easily replaceable body parts and fairly cheap. No structural damage whatsoever. Yours sounds like it would be considerably more labor and parts to repair. Never know though. Hopefully things will turn out in your favor and the insurance company will take care of it and not scrap the car. Post some pics and keep us posted on how things turn out.

an update on my condition
The car is running, it was a valve in my gas tank that had been knocked off that was keeping my engine from firing. To get to it they had to cut my flows off but they did do a pretty good job of welding them back on, and they might be a tad bit off, but its not that noticable, I'm just glad its drivable.
My right rear rim was bent and un-repairable, so dad got a junker rim that was the same size, and I've got my turbo action brand new white letter tires mounted on three eagle alloy polished rims, and one ugly, rusted, not-as-deep rim... it looks so pitiful.
I took the car to a body shop today and got an estimate... he looked at the car, looked at me, and said to me "It's a total" the car is worth about 4,000 and the damage is upwards of 6. Not only is the passenger side door and rear quarter damaged, but a few dents to the drivers rear too.
I was supposed to get my front end aligned, but it still pulls to the right and I think my rear end has been knocked outta alignment. and it looks like my drivers side rear tire wobbles a bit... but that might be because I still have a piece of that doggone body kit wedged in my rim just right to where it holds air... I'm gonna go have that fixed soon as well.
Considering being 17 years old, and not even having a job just yet (although I'm getting to know the local o'reilly's crew pretty good.) It's gonna be FOREVER until I'm able to get her back to what she originally looked like. but as long as I can drive it and it runs good, I'm okay.
And no, I still havent checked with my insurance... and I pray since they probably will rule it a total, that they won't take it from me, and they'll let me keep it... and I'm always praying that I'll get some sorta check... and that my insurance wont go up.
Anyone got an Eagle Alloy rim for sale? It's 15x8 polished aluminum wheel with a 5 on 4.75 with a 17 mm offset. Yeah, i know they're just 15 inch wheels, but htey look good. I think they're typically about 110 apiece.
And I do have one description of the car that hit me. "It was small, brown, and old." Women should really get to know cars better. I couldn't see the car because it was dark, and they were comming up the way of the darker end of the itnersection... just flyin on through.

Even if the person did stop without having that person admit they were speeding, you would have probably been deemed at fault. Police arent real sympathetic to what happened, they only go by what they see when they arrive at the seen. Kinda crappy, but thats the way it is.

You will have to make a choice. Keep the car with salvage title and fix it back up or take the money and buy another one. Fixing up a car with a salvage title makes little sense unless you are sure you will never sell it or its strictly a race car. If you try to sell a car with a salvage title it will be worth much less. Noone wants to buy a car that can never be totaled out again. You only need liability for a salvaged title. There is nothing else to cover because the car is salvaged, so full coverage is useless. If my kid didnt need a first car I would have just let them have it and bought another one. You can find decent thirdgens around for 2k-4k easily.
