Orange Peel opinions, comments

I just got my Camaro back from the local GM body shop. ON painting the passangerside lower door. They oranged peeled the lower so bad that not only can you see it, but you can FEEL it. I plan to go back.

Should I get my money back on the door or fight for a repaint??

They also painted a new nose, fender and hood for me with a little bit of orange peel on it. The pin stripe they put on isn't quite right.

If your in the Dallas area don't have your car worked on by RELIABLE CHEVROLET in Richardson, they do sh*tty work.

On top of it all, their car jockey's backed my Camaro into something and broke off the driver's side, side spoiler.

Somethings I learned and will share with the group, GM no longer has Hoods for 3rd Gen. Asian fenders don't match the profile of the hood so the hood will look lower by the anntenna.

GM certified my a**. They had it 23 days and there are still things assembled wrong and they even had the guts to put a broken part back on the car.

if it just has orange peel, it doesn't need to be repainted....if they knew what they were doing, it would just need wetsanded and buffed.

Take it back! If you have to, get the Service Manager out to look at it. Don't settle for less then you deserve! Take it from somebody who works at a dealership, if your persistant, they will rectify. If the dealer won't handle it, go up a notch. Call GM Customer service, etc...

Take it back and give them the chance to make it right before you go nuts. Wetsanding and buffing will take care of it. Most body shops don't wetsand and buff unless you pay extra, or if the orange peel is bad enough to make the person bring it back.

You're getting some good feedback here, Yes, definitely take it back and lodge your complaints... make them aware, Ifthey don't know, how can they help? Any good reputable shop should stand behind all their repairs.
Was it an insurance pay repair? If so, and they turn youy away, Get the adjuster assigned to your claim involved.
If they damaged your car in any way, while it was under their care, They have to pay for it.
I run a GM dealer Body shop, and customer service is the name of the game...You need your customers return business, there's no reason for pissing people off!!!!

Thanks guys for your support, I will let you know what they say when I go back for them to finish the left rear quarter panel.

As for those saying I'm

you go nuts
There is more to the story. My orginal hood was beyond repair due to crash damage and hail damage. SO I brought a used hood and put it on BEFORE bringing it to the shop. They called me a few days later and said it would be cheaper to buy the GM hood ($802) and use it due to peeling paint and dents, etc. Well they found out it was discontinued so they went and got an Asian copy for $200.

I came over there to look at it on the car and the guy pointed out damage/defect on the front of it and said I would have to pay 2 hours labor to fix a "NEW" part. I asked them to order another, they refused, I asked why not, he responsed saying "They are all like that."

So I found out where they got the hood from and found out that damaged hoods were $90, they were trying to make a $110 profit off of me. Also the other hoods in stock did not have the defect.

I ended up just having them paint the used hood with the small dents left in, I refused to pay $400 to fill in 12 dents.

Thanks again for the feedback and letting me share my story.

After thoroughly reviewing your story, and the comments from the other dealers here, i've come to a fair and impartial opinion.

Simply put... **** THAT... Isn't this Reliable place where "overhaulin" gets their engines? Get yours man.. thats all I can say. I can go anywhere else in the world and get ****ed over for a paint job, but when I go to the dealer, I expect them to understand the following.

1. I know this **** aint going to be cheap, and I am prepared to pay for quality work.

2. I am here to get it done right the first time.

3. I am here under the premise that if all else fails, turn to "big brother" and he will make it happen (GM)

4. If I am bringing a 20 year old car to the dealership to have it painted, then its more of a labor of love to have it done, not just necessity. Because of this, I am going to be meticulous in my inspection of the car and expect it to be showroom quality.

that is all.

u should not have to pay for them to fix a new hood. They should eat it or were hey got the hood should pay..... Something sould be done about this shop.... they seem very shady and all other shops that do good work are have to pay because of shops like this.
