Wide Body Kit for Firebird

I've never been a big fan of wide body kits on much of anything (some of them are pretty horrible, esp if the rest of the car isn't done just right), but the recent GM and GMMG 4th gen show cars are kind of growing on me. I had never seen one that I liked, even a little bit, for a thirdgen 'bird...til today!

I had a little time to kill this afternoon and went to one of my local junkyards and found an 83 Trans Am with a wide body kit. Actually, its more like slightly wider than stock front fenders (fiberglass), and some more seriously bulged rear quarters. The kit is fiberglass of course, with the fenders bolting on like steel ones and the quarters are bonded to the original quarters. The flares end at the lower part with extensions similar to 2nd gen ones (but larger), or even a little like the "ground efffects" on early thirdgen TAs. There's a thin fiberglass rocker piece connecting them. The doors are unchanged, which is what I like about this kit. Thirdgen doors are bulky enough without making them thicker.
One of the fenders is broken at the bottom front, but its repairable. They're now sitting in my garage.
The rear quarters are going to be a little more difficult to remove, but thats what a cordless Sawzall is for! I'm going back for them tomorrow.

I have no idea if I'll ever use these, or what I'll use them on (not my 87 TA), but they looked kind of cool and I'm getting them pretty cheap. I'll post pics as soon as I can.

It has the cutouts for the fender vents too, so it looks stock to the untrained eye. I really did a doubletake walking through the yard!
I should have the 1/4s no later than Thursday, so maybe I can get the pics uploaded by Friday.

Joe where are these magical yards you speak of? Theres pretty much nothing in the ones up in Athens and just as close with the ones in North Atlanta. Share in the wealth man!

That might be it, but the rear flares in the pic look a little bigger than on the car I found. Its hard to say though, since it was sitting high off the ground with no wheels on it. The front fenders look pretty close.

I have a few yards that I frequent, but most of my really good finds have been at the two Pull-A-Part yards; one on Buford Highway just south of Pleasant Hill, and the other on Henrico Rd (the better one IMHO), just off Moreland Avenue, down in the 'hood!
Half the time I don't find anything, but the "good" runs more than make up for it. You have to go regularly not to miss the really good stuff.
Most of the upgrades on redraif's car have come from this yard...PMD seats (out of a Pontiac 6000, near perfect), overhead console, rear spoilers, and lots of miscellaneous stuff.
