What to do with old moonroof?

What to do with old moonroof?
I've got an 86 Buick Grand National (sorry) that I bought last year with a dealer installed ASC power sunroof. The seals are breaking down and the thing doesn't work part of the time - seems like the motor is getting weak. You can't get parts for this thing so I was wondering what would be the best way to handle this. I don't really care one way or the other about a sunroof, but if it's there, I'd like it to work.
1. I could go back to a solid roof. I thought about cutting out a section of roof from a junkyard car and welding it in. That way, it would have any braces that were present. Some folks have suggested that it would be hard to fix so that it wouldn't show. I won't go as far as to replace the whole roof though.
2. New aftermarket power sunroof would be easy but pricy. I suppose close to $900.
3. I've seen a lot of later model cars with nice moonroofs. Saw a late model BMW and Mercedes in the junkyard. Roofs are vaguely same contour/size. The are not glass, but metal, body colored roof that looks good. They are mounted very flush to the roof however, not set into the roof with a thin flange around the top edge like mine. So I suppose you'd have to cut the roof around the window and weld that section of roof in. Price would only be about $75 for the part.
Anyone ever tackle a problem like this. What did you do?

And this is 3rd gen related how? I see no mention of an 82-92 Camaro or Firebird in your post.
also, third gen cars never came with a sunroof or moonroof of any style so you're asking at the wrong site!
