Well this is a hard choice I got to make now. There are two camaros that would make great projects.
one is a black 1990 IROC, t-tops, 305 TPI, auto, pseat, psteering, pw, pdl, needs cosmetic work, paint job, and some body work, interior needs new carpet and seats cleaned, electronic seal trunk needs work, need exhaust system, some electrical work(mostly cleaning up), other than that it is fine. I seen this car before it was sold to the now current owner and as it is descripe above. Now however he has just paid 1200 to get the car back from a trans shop, and is asking 1500.
The other is a 1989 camaro, with a sport coupe front end, 350, mixed matched rims, needs paint job, body work, looks like interior work as well. I am going to ask somemore about the car though. They want 1000 for this car.
I think its odd the first one is getting passed around. Also, electrical work SUCKS if you aren't really comfortable with a meter. I guess it comes down to:
1. What do you want to do with it (nice ride, all track, etc)
2. How much money can you put into it ?
3. Can you do body work?
id go with the 89 having a 350 is a great place to start if u are gonna try to make ur car asfast as possible. every book ive read always says forget the 305 go with a 350, although i do like the look of the 90 better. good luck with the project
Hahahaha, that's not worth near that much. And if you're gonna get a nice looking daily driver, don't bother getting a fixerupper. Because decent paint is expensive, and once its repainted you're gonna cry a little every time some jackass dings you in a parking lot.
I did the KBB value and came out to 3585. But I am mainly looking for local cars also. Going to check out a camaro today matter of fact, White w/ Ttops is all i know as of now.
I paid 3k for my car. Its an 86 305 5 speed. Had 94k miles. (I put the Iroc rims on it). None the less, the paint is good interior is good motor and tranny are good. It's got tons of options. Just gotta be patient.. Took me over a year to find somethign nice that was free of rust. (up here in da nort its a b!tch to find stuff thats not rusted to ****.) Man I love my camaro lol.
really? cause i just did it and on EXCELLENT I got $2390.. and that car is between fair ($1645) and good ($2075)
not saying KBB is the best info out there, but that car is NOT worth anywhere near $3400
hell, with all options and only 50k on the clock, i still cant get KBB to go higher than $3150.... so how did u get that high of a #? or are you just bull****ting us so you can try to justify the price on that car?
i went to "Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value" which is what the car would actually be worth, not for what they think it would sell for. I also backed this up with NADA. I am only looking at the car, doesn't mean for sure I drive 204 buy a car i never seen.
Its not uncommon around here to see good camaro rs go for 3000 +. My camaro 6 years ago sold for 3800, and latter I had offers of around that for it. But I had plans which sadly never will be seen on it.
For somereason that the **** of camaros usually around here. You think in Georgia they be cheaper.
Finding one with decent paint and interior is hard I know, but the other factor is, mechanically sound.
Oh well no need to start a flame war on this subject.
The camaro I mentioned i was going to look at locally is a waste, good for a strip car but for my use no. Built 305 4 bolt main guy has 9 k in motor won't sell no less than 4500, needs paint for sure, and judging by the interior i definetly redo it, even though the seats where just redone. Not sure why but the white pearl crush velvet with a gold zebra style stripe embed in it looked like yesterdays lunch.
I have also found a 92 Camaro Z28 with the 1LE/B4C police pursuit package, 4,900 169,000. Its on the autotrader link. Not sure about it. 1 of 589 made, new engine w/ 24k miles on it. Not up on what the value of this would be, but would have a definate cool factor.
Make sure you check it out. I did an autotrader for a Camaro. I came up with an awesome looking z28, 350tpi, 127,000miles, for 3200. I checked it out and thought it was awesome, and I was a day away from giving the guy the 3g's unitl I took it to a mechanic and had it up on a lift. Everything leaked! I mean everything - trans, engine, diff, pow steer, and the kitchen sink. Ironically, my mechanic knew of a 91 rs, t-tops, with 97,000 miles (It was actually tucked away under a cover in his garage). . I did't want it cus I figured it was a v6, turned out it was 305tbi. The body was surprisingly perfect (minor paint fade on hood) and it drove, literally, ten times nicer than the z28. I bought it for 2600. Only trouble I've had was slight crack in radiator and two accidents(one of em iffy, the other totally someone elses fault - my car was parked and I was in the house).
I'm agreeing with codeman, have patience (as difficult as it is wen all ya wanna do is drive around in ur camaro). I looked at two local camaros and the one on autotrader before I had found mine hiding in my mechanics garage.

I bought my camaro from a guy about 2 hours away from me. I was in such a rush to get a camaro and be driving around with it. I bought it. I paid 1000 for it. I was able to drive it around for about 5 months or so before the 4spd auto decided to be a 2spd auto. then the head gaskets decided split and rip. I had to put a new motor and trans in it. So I replaced them and found soooo much wireing and other little things wrong.
So I had to buy a parts car with a good T-5 and swaped it out for the very weak 4spd. Got rid of the tbi and the 305 for a 350. I probebly could have saved myself alot of money if I was just a little more patient and willing to get a better deal.
yah, same boat here.. bought an IROC because i wanted an iroc for 1500... engine went out, and i found more rust than i wanted to under the GFX, and i didnt really want the interior.. the only good thing was the 700r4 was just rebuilt and strengthened... lol, but i want a t-56 now.. !
Yeah I do know to look at the car for sure before you buy. I would rather have a car closer than what I found.
My RS had 135,000 miles on it, smoked from valve stem seals(no biggie, but never was fixed), 305, no rust seen, I was told the passenger fender was replaced because the driver (a teenage girl, no offense i know alot of girls that are good drivers but this one wasn't) hit the side of the garage door frame and bent it. Well... we payed 3800 to get off the 2nd owners hands, he but it on a credit card. Got it home, mechanically the car was fine. But I spent must have been 2 hrs vaccuming the truck removing beach not to mention other stuff. Course I was 14 at the time, and was excited about it being a V8 Camaro.
But my friends and family are keeping there eyes opened for camaro or bird that has decent mileage and a V8, in decent shape. Funny how you see them all the time on the side of the road when you have one for like 2000-3000, and when you looking there are none to be found.
If any know any for sale in Georgia, or a the surrounding area let me know.
