iPod in a Firebird? I say Whaaaaaaaaa?

Surfin the net I came across this site. The work is done poorly but the idea is cool. Looks more like he should have spent the cash on the car rather than the ipod....

Hooray for customs

The only problem I see with that is the fact you can't control the pod from the headunit, there is not visualization of what's playing unless you crane your neck back to see the pod and thefact that the screen is brighter than crap and highly annoying. I'd spring for one of those adapters than let's you dump it in the glove box and control everything from the HU.

All fine and good until he tries to suddenly downshift, or his pasenger wants to roll down their window.

Good idea, lacking in execution.

Dude, where in tacompton are you? It's odd to see another northwesterner here. There aren't many around here that care about their thirdgens.

Umm.. it's an auto- I doubt he's gonna be down shifting any time soon.

And the passenger button is moved to a stupid location yet still accessible.

Either way I'd never want to drive that car- hideousssss.

ok well maby i did not see this but is he using a stock raido? I think its a cool idea if your trying to keep your car looking stock. but if he is using a after market head unit why not just use a AUX imput? thats what i did and i just used the belt clip and opened the ash tray and cliped it to the lid. Now so you do not have to move the power window buttons and everything couldent he have just cut up the ash tray area? that way he could see the screan and would be more accessible.

I'm glad GM didn't come up with the "window switch under the brake lever" design. Instant recall.

I think that would have been better implemented in the ashtray where you already have a hole and don't have a nice piece of non-matching plastic now where the window switch used to be.

Idea: A
Convenience: B-
Implementation: F-----------------

East-side-ish. Not far from Puget Sound Hospital.

Anyway, back on topic. I'd like to see it when he's got a chick in the car, and she goes to roll down her window, can't find the damn switch, and ends up accidentally pulling the p-brake at 55mph.

This of course assuming that any self-respecting woman would get into that ugly piece of crap.

I like that ashtray idea. Using the A/C controls must be a pain though.

i got one of those universal mount things. you slide it into the ac vent in the side, and while its conveniently mounted right in front of you at eye level it is being cooled off by air if you have it on and cold. and check out a pic of my head unit. easy to plug in, it was only 100 bucks and sounds great.

see the input?

Yeah it is a crappy looking car, but in his defense, not everyone can afford a new paint job. I'll say it's a work in progress.
That said, he should have gave the i-Pod mount more forethought, because that just ain't cuttin' it! It would look better on the dash or in the ashtray as previously mentioned. Oh well, if that's what he likes...

Isn't there a thread on this forum that shows a dash mounted I-pod? I could've sworn I saw it before a couple months ago.

You might be refering to my car.

In the last pic you can see how I changed it up a little. I got the Belkin iPod Auto Adapter. It plugs in the Cig lighter, and provides power to the dock connector. Also from the dock connector comes the audio signal and you just plug in the input from the radio to the Adapter at the cig lighter. Allowed me to have the iPod sit up higher and look a little more flush compaired to having the stereo connection at the top.

My mount is just a surround sound speaker mount and a cellphone holder. Cost maybe 20 bucks to build. The great thing....I can easily see, and reach the iPod.

Very nice job. Looks a lot smoother than most of the ones I've seen.
