Good replacement for Camaro Tail-lights
I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that sells different tail lights or covers then the stock ones. I'm REALLY not a fan of the simple orange, red, then white blocked lights, and like the firebird lights much better. I was considering getting blackouts in the back, but I wanted to know if anyone had any other designs in mind. I'm even considering trying out t/a tail lights, but I'm not quite sure how much work I'd have to put in THAT job, or what to be done. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

give them a good T-cut polish and learn to love them. If someone hasn't made a replacement by now we aren't ever going to get them. You could always fill them in and install led bars.

has anyone made a thread on how to make the led tail lights?

hmm, i've searched for LED tail light threads, though the only one I saw had like 2 pictures showing, and ALOTTA flaming, so I'm still wondering when one will come around..
Though I was wondering, if anyone could rate teh difficulty of swapping a camaro's tail with a firebird's, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've seen a few articles on transmaros and cam-ams, though really no in-depth walkthrough. But ya.. I guess a good polishing is probably the best I could do.
Thanks again everyone.

Probably in the next year or so I'll be converting mine to LED. Basically you have to open them up, cut your PCB to the right size. Solder all your superflux LEDs to the board, mount the board and then seal everything back up.
Here is how I did the ones on my 4Runner

When I do the Camaro, I'm going to do everything. Brake/Tail/Turn and reverse.

wow.. nice setup on the 4Runner1 Does anyone have pics of one on a 'maro at all?
I'm thinking about trying it out wheenver some clearer covers will come out, because finding some nice covers that are polished and look decent-new, is a TOUGH find.
And when you mentioned having seen all red taillights, what do you mean by that? r would you have pictures? I'll try searching a bit more in the meantime. thanks again everyone

And the rest I think were people used those plug/play LEDs. These don't light up the housing enough. You really need to do a retro, like I did on the 4Runner. That way it looks stock and is still safe for others.

hah, ok. I guess I better start looking up some more info on the LEDS and everything then. Does it get too bright at all though? Like, bright enough to pose a distraction for other people/cops?

you want to get superflux LEDs.
You can get them straight from Lumileds.
http://www.lumileds.com/products/line.cfm?lineId=4
They only make Red and the Amber in true Superflux, so for white you'll have too look at the knockoffs on Ebay. But for the red and amber get the real thing.
They come in a tube of 60.
For figuring out what resistor you need here is a calculator.

If you really want to learn about LED Retros, check out this forum.

That's where I go for these projects.

They get maybe a tad bit brighter then a bulb, but they have that instant on when you hit the brake that looks cool.
Plus you get a more even color within your lens, since the LEDs are placed throughout the housing. Not hotspot like you do with the bulb.

No, nobody sells aftermarket lights for us camaro guys. As far as LEDs go, there's a pretty cool article in Custom Rodder about installing custom LEDs into your ride (I think it's December '05?). Also, Popular Hot Rodding did a piece where they smoked a '90s tail lights by mixing clear coat and a dash a black paint. I think that looks pretty sweet and not cheesy like aftermarket lights can get. Currently, I'm working on a design that will look like an early 2nd gen camaro's rear. I'm using lights out of a C4 corvette that I plucked from a junkyard along with some custom wiring. Should be neat when it's done.
