Shredding The Pounds

Today I was bored and decided for the heck of it to get rid of some useless junk. I got rid of the Spare Tire, Jack and the nuts and bolts that go with it. It'll prolly bite me in the A$$ later but oh well..

Anyways I was trying to remove that long rod in the trunk that you can pull out to cover your trunk contents, but with tint and louvers I don't need that, How do I remove it?

I was thinking about the AC compressor too since mine is busted but I don't have money for the shorter belt.

The rear hatch cover should just pop out. It is held in place by a round slotted peice on the end. Wouldnt be worth the wieght reduction though. It probably weighs 2 lbs

As a rule of thumb, you will reduce your 1/4 et by 0.1 sec per every 100#'s, so keep that in mind when weighing the gain vs hassle. If your car is a daily driver, I would reconsider keeping the spare tire.

Keep you A/C parts, someday you may want them back and it would be much more difficult to gather up the parts from classifieds or wrecking yards.

During school today I was thinking about the whole weight reduction.

I'm gonna keep it stock, too much hassle and it will look nicer.

Go for more subtle weight reductions. Tubular K member, coil overs, tubular A arms, aluminum drive shaft, light(er) weight wheels, aluminum underdrive pulleys, ...LS1 (that'll drop 150lbs and take away about a second or two )

Weight reduction isn't really worth it if it's a street car. With weight reduction, you always have to give up something. Either creature comforts, or lots of cash. Sometimes safety is given up, or driveability. Switching to a tubular K-member leaves your oil pan more exposed, removing the front bumper support (100lbs off the front) is almost certain car destruction in the event of a front end collision. Instead of putting your money into lightweight parts or paying hospital bills, why not put it into go-fast products. Save up for a nice set of AFR heads

Sorry try 26 pounds for the front bumper support. You can remove that or replace it with an alum bumper support which will save you 5-10 pounds.
