ebay body parts

i need some replacement sheetmetal for my '85. was looking at these ebay auctions. at first glance they seem like a steal, but i was wondering if these are decent or just cheap replacements that won't line up right? anyone have an experience with these?

also, another dumb question... the primer on these aftermarket parts, is it paint-ready or will prep work have to be done to it?

Re: ebay body parts

if they're aftermarket, they're going to need some fooling around with to get them to line up prefect, and I believe these are paint ready, just need to be roughed up with a scratch rag.

Re: ebay body parts

cool, that means i can just take it to a good body shop and have them lay some base coat and clear down.

does anyone have any experience with those vendors i listed specifically? anything good or bad to say?

Re: ebay body parts

I have not used this company for parts personally, but I read their auction on ebay and it said that the majority of their parts are CAPA Certified. I have a CAPA Certified pass. fender on my 82 right now and it looks good and needed very little adjusting to make it fit and look good. Going to get a driver side next week if time permits. I can get them from a place in the city where i live for a little less than the shipping they want on ebay. The driver side is original fender and the pass. side i took off looked close to the same gauge metal from what i could see. Didnt have a gauge to measure both of them, but whenn side by side its so close i couldnt see any differance. Just give them a email and ask if its CAPA Certified or not. You may even have a place near you can just pick them up. The one here is called The Body Mans Warehouse. They are in texas, okla, newmexico, arizona, louisiana, mississippi, arkansas, mosurri.

Car: basic third gens
Engine: that I like
Transmission: to restore
Axle/Gears: and enjoy
Re: ebay body parts

CAPA certified doesn't mean jack****. It all depends on each individual company and each application. It's not as bad for the newer cars, they generally fit OK or even well, just thinner metal. For older cars (ie third gens) they seem to be still stamped from old crap tooling from back in the day. There are exceptions, '82-'93 s10 fenders usually fit well for example. Basically, it may take some careful bending/grinding/shoving/pulling to get them to fit well. I highly recommend fitting any aftermarket panel to the car before having them painted.

Re: ebay body parts

Dude, for $20 a fender it might be worth a try--especially if you're close enough to pick it up.

Re: ebay body parts

there is no replacement part that fits perfect, I have put GM fenders and quarters on cars, and had to do some work to make them fit most aftermarket ones don't have as sharp a body line in them. D&H is a fairly large supplier, just realize the parts will need some tweaking to be perfect
