what should i do? Its a 89 rs v6. I wanted to swap a v8 into it but found this rust. Should i just find a different car. I only paid 400 for it. The rust has eaten must of the metal on the inside and down the pillar. all from the inside out.
if thats the only rust a good metal man can fix it, but its hard to find that now, people just want to slap new parts on stuff they dont fix things anymore
if there is more rust than than and worse than that, then take and strip all the good parts off the car, doors fenders, front clip, intreior etc etc, you will get atleast 400 for the parts sold by them selfs and use that toward a better one, or save the parts and maybe you can find one that needs some parts that you can strip off of that one

no its not the only rust. It goes down the windshield pillar but on the inside of the metal and looks like it has done the same thing on the other side. What seemed to of happened is that the corner cracked from body flex and allowed water to come in.

Part's car. Nothing more.

lol i love how if one person gives an opinon that others dont agree with every one else just crucify's them
but yeah if the a plillar is rotted just find a new car and use yours for parts but by saying this. This must make me also a mustang owner that funds my vehicle with mommys and daddys help.....LOL
If you have another car to get you around, and you can afford it being off the road for a while, and are willing to learn on it, it may be great for a little body work education. My opinion would be to just ditch it and get a car a little more solid to start with. For the price these 3rd gens are going for, it'll allow you to put more time and money into the motor modifications you want to do.
Oh yeah, if it is that rotted on top, I'm sure you have quite a bit of rot in the floors, rockers, and quarters too...

Reason: afterthought

My friend had a POS 86 that was a v6 car and i learned so much on that. Mostly where stuff was and what to do if you run into certain issues. If the top is the only rotted part then cut and weld baby. If the car is mostly rot and held together by bubble gum then it might be toast. If you wanna keep the car don't give up. But as with most rot there is a point where it might just be to much.
