I louver so much I can't let her go!!!
I love the Z-28 hood but I have a broken louver, where can i get one without having to sell a kidney?
If I can't find some new and cheap I guess I would rather have a new hood all together I'm thinking a SS Hood or a 4" Cowl, any thoughts?
Btw this is for my '87 Z-28

The title is comprised of pithy/witty comical genius, to classify it as anything less is an abomination. Enjoy the play on words and chuckle light-heartedly. Nonetheless my question goes unanswered...

Why thank you justin I'm happy to hear my efforts are noticed.
Hawks- $201.00 http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/ca...louvernew.aspx for ONE!!! Louver
Craigslist- Nothing
Ebay- used pass. side 50.00
used both sides velcroed on, no studs 15.00
So unless anyone out there has a spare I will be in the market for a new hood...

Won't a new hood cost twice as much (without shipping) as new louver? Yea, it's expensive for such a little part but still makes better financial sense than going out and replacing the hood (Camaro's with louvers look better too, and are getting harder to find).

They used to be cheap..ish from GM about 10 years ago ($50-75). The norm seems to be $140 to $200. Your best bet may be a pick a part, which is where I picked up a pair awhile back for $10. I doused the attaching hardware with WD-40 to avoid breaking off the tabs moulded into the louvers. I still broke 2 and they were faded, but after a coat of semi gloss paint they look new and haven't fallen off.

Yeah I know I want to keep the hood I have. I like the way it looks but I can't justify paying $200.00 for a piece of plastic. I would rather pay 300.00 to 400.00 dollars on a brand new hood. I know it sounds crazy but trust me the math is there.
$x2 X (New Hood) = Happy Wife
$ X (Small Piece of Plastic) = Unhappy wife

You are right, your math is flawless. I guess on a positive note, you can get some money back by selling the non-broken louver and old hood.

Those are the ones to get and repair because you can get them cheap and no one else will likely want them. I myself bought a used hood for $20 with good louvers but you don't come across that often.
I've been married for 15 years with two kids and my wife could give a **** what i spend money on as long as bills are paid.

Re: I louver so much I can't let her go!!!
You should buy the one with no studs. Wait for a warm day and remove the old louver. Clean the area under the louver thoroughly. Get some 3M weatherstrip adhesive and goop up the edges of all the holes on the hood as well the rubber bumpers that hold up the louvers.
Use a bead about the size of a pea in each area.
Set the louver down quickly over the holes and press down lightly. The Louver will self level and settle down right where it is supposed to be. If you have the sound deadening on the underside of you hood no one will know and if you don't most people wont notice anyway.
Wait a day before driving.
In the future if you need to take it off slowly lift the front edge on the louver and work a putty knife under as you go. It will come back off without breaking when you want it to but it won't fly off at speed tested to 125mph. (or so I hear)
It has to be 3M brand for this to work IMO

I have a set with about half the posts missing. I was going to add studs to it but kind of lost interest. PM me what they'd be worth to you if you're interested in them.
