Ok I just got my reard end back from the blaster and now I need to prep and paint it before it goes back in. So my questions are

1. What or do I need to sand it down with?
2. after sanding clean with carb cleaner and tack cloth?
3. What primer since it's fresh metal does it need to be self etching then grey primer then paint?

Sorry for the basic questions but I after paying for this I want it to look good.

Just saw I put this in the wrong section so if it needs to be moved please do so.

I am not an expert but I am not sure if the chemicals in the carb cleaner will affect the sticking of the paint. I believe that self etching primer is all you need. I think it bonds to the surface and provides a paintable surface. Hopefully there will be more responses to help you more.

Yeah instead of carb cleaner I guess I need to use grease and wax remover seems to be what everyone is using.

Do you think a pint will be enough for a rear end? I read that it goes on like water.

first of all if you got it sand blasted after you sand it down watch out what you use to clean it with... pour thiner or spraygun cleaner but don't wipe it off with anything just pour it... this will wash out any chemicals in the bare metal..... REMEMBER TO USE HIGH TEM PAINT not just any paint because heat will flake your paint off and then all u did will be worthless

Well I just bought a quart of por 15 semi gloss, I want it to last so im going to do it right the first time.

Excellent choice. I have yet to use Por-15 but I have read countless happy reports on it if treated and applied properly.

James when you applied yours did you use the metal ready? I called por 15 and they said since it was sandblasted just use a wax and grease remover and apply the por 15 directly to the surface.

IIRC, I used Metal Ready, but then I didn't sandblast either. Can't go wrong following POR's advice, I wouldn't think. At any rate, the paint has held up for a number of years on everything I've applied it to--BTW, get the paint on your skin and you'll wear it for a long time.
