I'm installing new hatch weatherstripping and wondered if I should run a bead of sealant around the lip or not? There didn't seem to be any sealant there when I removed the old weatherstripping. Just wondered what others have done.

I was thinking about doing this to mine. It's got a random leak at the top and I have no idea where it's coming from.

So how far out of adjustment are your hinges?

you shouldn't NEED any sealant due to the design of the seal, but it wouldn't hurt to use a little to help keep it from shifting around or pulling up accidentally.

Thank's 1ADan, I thought I would put a little at each of the four corners for the reason you mentioned and a little at the seam.

I didn't think they were out of adjustment. The weatherstripping is not exactly centered, what I mean by that is the seam is not directly in the middle of the licenses plate. The metal trim is a little loose at the top of the glass also, not leaking from there though. I poured water all over the area last weekend and couldn't get it to leak!? I guess I'll check the hinges next.

Permatex has a sealant that never fully dries out - kinda like a sticky gel/grease. It's enough to give a reasonable seal without actually gluing the rubber to the car permanently. If I remember correctly it's blue in color. I've used it on my T-Top rubbers.

if it don't dry, it won't stick.

Use some 100% clear silicone in key places, it won't be stuck for good.

Then spray some wd-40 on a rag and wipe down the hatch area where it sits.
That will keep it from sticking, rubber, plastic n paint safe.
