Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

mine went through a nasty hailstorm(some stones
baseball size or bigger) in 1998;windsheild broken,
aluminum louvers battered,SMC hood bruized,a few
emblems broken, lots of dings(most of the damage all
fixed now)
The 'ol third was tough though-a couple cars parked
next to mine came out far worse
My '69 camaro also got battered in the same storm,
busted windshield,bent up trim,dings...

After driving fourthgens for six years without a problem, it finally happened. 2001 v6 spun on some ice the first week of snow, before the salt went down, two years ago. Slid off the road only going about 35 (just gotten over a huge hill i was having a horrible time climbing). Slid sideways on it's belly over the edge of a ditch for about a hundred feet, over tree stumps and logs probably tearing it up underneath. Finally slid sideways into a tree which it was only going about ten by then (drink didnt even fall out of the cupholder, and 4thgen owners know those cupholders are worthless), but it hit right at the back of the wheel and snapped something. Both front wheels pointed different directions. To make things worse, there was a big knot at the bottom of the tree which actually got stuck in the wheel well, and as they tried to pull it onto the flatbed the tree was coming with it. They had to call in a truck with a really long cable to pull it sideways away from the tree first. It all took hours at 2am and the cop who was there was pretty pissed and was calling me a liar about how fast i was going.

Insurance totalled it. Amazingly gave me about 8700 after my deductible. I had paid about 9 two years earlier and put 30thousand miles on it. Couldnt find another low mile one and my dad (cosigner so he gets some input) didnt want me getting another, settled for a 2002 monte carlo.

Lesson learned, my 85 will never be driven in snow.

(the edge of the rim was broken, thats how the tire came off.)

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

Humm lets see it would have to be my 89 Firebird that my best friend Borrowed / stole (without permission) then proceed to rear end a lady at a light and get hit in the rear end as well totaling the car. I had just rebuilt the motor and front end and Painted it less than 3 months prior and maybe had put 400 miles on it. I had had the car for 4 years and never even hit a curb in it, the lady he hit sued and needless to say me and Ken are NOT friends anymore.. Ill see if I can find the Pictures

thanks its hard to keep a positive mind with that thing, the engine isnt running properly lately, i hate all the rust, needs a whole engine rebuild, i need a job and a welder so i can do it right. its faster than most cars but seems slow to me. and the doors freeze **** because there is a hole in the doors. and a few days ago someone did try to steal it

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

The worst thing to happen to my thirdgen, and the worst thats MY OWN STUPID FAULT (if driving that 4th in the winter doesnt count) resulted in my 85 still needing a new fender. I was dumb enough to be screwing with the carb while the car was in gear and nobody in the drivers seat. It got caught in high idle, overpowered the parking brake, rolled over the 4x4 wood block... I managed to kick it out of high idle about a foot before it rolled into the edge of the opening to the garage door. It hit pretty much right where the bumper meets the fender and dented the fender all up. It also put the garage door track out of position but i was able to knock that back into position with the 4x4.

Yeah the monte carlo is nice with its huge trunk and enough space to carry guitar and keyboard setups including amps along with half the band to a show. And actually being able to leave the stuff there without worrying about somebody smashing the back window to steal it all out of the back of a camaro. Need to fix an ABS problem though.

My mom had to move mine out of the driveway when the roof of the house was being redone. The guys were laughing because she couldnt get it started until she remembered back to her teenage years and how to start them up.

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

Head on collision in my 87 TA, there was a tourist that got on the freeway going the wrong direction. I came around the bend and didnt stand a chance. That one was totaled. I woke up in the ambulance but just got bad whiplash and a few stitches where hit steering wheel with head. The question you never want to hear is "Can you move your toes?"

Current 86 TA some idiot was hauling some furniture or something and it fell off onto the freeway at 4am and I hit it going about 80mph. New hood and bumper and paint only. Lucky it didnt crash thru windshield and kill me, somehow it struck under and bent up hood.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...ph-tawreck.jpg

Now I commute on side streets and try by all means to avoid the fwy lol. Its really true that its the other drivers you have to watch out for. Have to say impressed with the abuse these cars can withstand. I suppose an airbag would be nice though. Sometimes think I have nine lives but they are dwindling!

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

ive redone brakes, inew drveshaft components, new water pump, cap rotor, plugs wires, spent 5 hours with no shirt on (which a 245lb 6,3 teen isnt the prettiest but im rather built so it was too disturbing) scrubbing my engine with degreaser and a couple toothbrushes, new tires balanced, i need an alignment, cleaned all the interior real good, got the a/cand wipers to work, still needs more done though it never feels like enough. im building a 328 stroker in auto shop but im not sure if i want to put it in the maro yet or buy a truck for winter and to carry **** around in

No I didnt catch him I didnt know the car was gone untill the cops showed up at my door. He had left the scene on foot so they thought I did it But lucky for me The guy who hit him and the lady he hit both saw him. HE then pulled the I dont have insurence and you let me use the car bit on the cops when they caught him a few hours later. He finialy admited he took the car without my permision and his insurance eventualy paid up and I bought the 89 Formula 350 to replace it, then 2 years later I bought the Delorean and sold the Formula. I really wish I could have kept both but the wife said NO way owell.

Maybe one day Ill get another Maui blue 89 WS6 Formula 350 t-top.

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

This (hope the link works):

http://forums.acuralegend.org/legend...ome-t5721.html

Long story short, it got stolen, recovered three months later and it's taken me up until this month to gather up the parts that were either broken or missing and to really get it sorted out to where is about as close as it was before it got boosted.

If you think parts for a 3rd Gen are hard to find, some parts for 1st Gen Legends are practically impossible to find. Parts for 1st Gen Legend coupes are non-existent, even in Japan.

Off Topic:

I wish it was this easy to get our 3rd Gens to pass emission testing (Post #15):

The car had quite a few problems and the previous owner either couldn't or wouldn't fix them. So it sat in the parking lot for almost a year until he decided to sell. Enter, me. I've never done a restore before and didn't really know what I was getting into. Everything I've done to the car had generally had to be done twice because I screwed it up the first time. I'm learning. You can teach an old dog new tricks. It just takes a little longer sometimes. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.

Anyway Any other stuff happen.

You got side swiped by a semi!! Imagine if you where the trailer part connects underneath him.

Probably this.

Although it's not quite as humorous as when a deer kicked me in the head and dookie'd in my backseat.

Just a bump lol and in the dirt I went 70 MPH, then back on the freeway grabbing gears. To get up behind the truck. Well short story even shorter I got paid. Lol

For me... probably me selling my 86 Iroc Hardtop Auto that I was the second owner of. And Then a few months later selling my 89 Iroc 5 Speed T-Top to buy my 4th Gen... Now I'm back to square 1 with another 86 that has no engine/trans.

Thanks... When I decided to buy the SS I knew I would have to sell my Iroc(s) even though I knew I would regret it later. SURE ENOUGH.... Knowing what I know now I would've kept one of them and dropped an LS1 in it. But se la vi... life goes on... and now I have another 86 that I'm looking to drop an LS1 in.

Worst thing to the Camaro happened before I bought it. Previous owner got into a fender bender on the front driver's side. They must have put a new fender on because I didn't find any body filler. Other than that, just stupid door dings since I've had it.

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

Went for dinner and drinks after a softball game with co-workers, I was parked next to a lifted club-cab pickup (both of us backed in). While in the restaurant (seated outdoors), I heard this crunch, then my car alarm goes off. The driver of the pickup forgot how long he was and turned too early to exit the parking spot. He scraped the driver side fender with his nerf bar, then his rear tire took the center cap off my front wheel and wrinkled the radius of my fender. To top it all off, he was uninsured, fortunately, I carry UIM on my policy.

Damage was about $1500 of which I paid a reimbursable $100 deductible.

I had worse with my previous ride (1983 Olds Cutlass Supreme) while still in the Navy. I was parked near a corner (which was legal until this mishap) when a tractor-trailer made a wrong tun to his delivery spot. He turned right and couldn't get his trailer around the corner, rolling its front tire over my driver side fender. The driver tried to deny he was in the area, but there were witnesses and photographic evidence of his trailer proved otherwise. The header of that subpoena was awesome "United States vs ****" (I've forgotten his name by now and wouldn't post it anyhow). Believe it or not, the Olds wasn't much worse off than my Camaro.

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

First car was 1989 Iroc-z 305, 5 speed. Loved the car, Handled great, pretty quick for a first car! Two irocs together.jpg
Mine is the Maroon one, the black one is dads car. While i had my learners permit, i was tearing *** in the country and the engine blew on me and my dad! Paid a mechanic shop to install a crate 350 engine! Decided to go drive it on Halloween night, Had been having fun with friends before driving. Was sitting at a red light and saw another light ahead of me turn green, Pulled out and a honda civic slammed the front end at about 20mph. I was at a dead stop in the middle of the intersection. So insurance totals it, but i buy it back for 200 dollars i believe, Fix the front end in my garage. Cost me 600 bucks for a new bumper and a new passenger fender! Grants iroc for sale 004.jpg.
Thats a picture of the car after my half *** fix! haha. Then i make a stupid home made ram air intake, you know.. The snorkles coming from the intake to behind the fog lights? BAD IDEA. School parking lot flooded with rain water, i was the first to leave school and a whole crowd of cars behind me. I didnt think about my intake, I made it about half way in the puddle and the car QUIT. starter just clicked, no turn overs. The point: Blew both head gaskets, and bent a ton of rods! Dont make ram air intakes!!
Car was bad luck, sold it after that for 600 bucks to a guy on craigslist.

Re: What's The worst Thing That has happened to one of your cars.

At least you bought it back for a good price haha. Also that's crazy that car has some type of bad luck to get that to happen again. And also that's why i don't trust doing a ram air intake your car pretty much has one installed underneath just not having the snorkel aimed way down. But those looked really nice.
