Window Louvers Question

I have an 86 z28 (third brake light on the rear window), and I came across these window louvers on craiglist for a pretty good deal. First thing though, is will they fit on my car? http://anchorage.craigslist.org/pts/2263266918.html It says that it's from an '85, but it looks like there is an opening for the brake light in the picture..

Also, once I get them I wanna paint them black. I assume they're just plastic and all I need to do is lightly sand it then go over it with a few coats of Krylon plastic paint, is this correct?

Thanks a ton

-Daniel

Re: Window Louvers Question

yes, those are for an 86, you're in luck

when I painted mine I used a primer meant for plastic, and then put a few coats of semi gloss enamel over the top of them. Just LET THEM DRY before you handle them,,, enamel takes longer to cure than you think it will

Re: Window Louvers Question

Really? That would be pretty sweet.

Another thing. If these don't come with the mounting hardware, where would be a best place to get the hardware? and how much would it be?

Re: Window Louvers Question

that's the trick... mounting hardware is impossible to find. If you buy them, they better come with everything, or you're going to be doing a lot of custom fab work.

for$150 it better come with everything, especially because the seller is basing his prices off what they go for new

Re: Window Louvers Question

Ok got the louvers. They look pretty good. Not aluminum though.. But it's all good. All the clips are in good shape except ONE, which I show in the picture below. I dont know if it really matters or if it's repairable? Maybe someone on hear can sell me an extra clip..

Broken clip:

All the clips look like this one except the aforementioned broken one:

Size: 80.0 KB

There is a tiny bit of separation but I think it can be pushed back in, eh?

Overall I think I got a pretty good deal on these.

Re: Window Louvers Question

Personally, I wouldnt worry about one clip. ARe those clips the only things hold it on?

Re: Window Louvers Question

Yeah, the guy told me that you clip it on and tighten them down, or something to that extent.

Hmmmm. Put them on and see how ubstable they are before you go to a ton of trouble.

One clip out of several probably wont make a difference

Re: Window Louvers Question

I was thinking it wouldnt, but I didn't want them blowing off going down the highway haha. I'll put them on this weekend if it stops snowing here.
