Custom third gen specific body cart-pics!
Hello all,
I just got a new MIG so decided to make myself a body cart. Didnt seem like any of the ones I see for sale are either sturdy enough or sized well for a third gen body. Not surprising since these are unibody cars and most of those carts are designed for frame based cars. I also wanted it nice and high so i could work well under it, i dont have room for a rotisserie yet and Im not sure its a good idea to flip these bodies around by the bumpers anyway.
Im very pleased with the results, very sturdy, handles well and the body stays in place. Maybe Ill actually get aroujnd to finishing the 85 body thats on it at some point!

thanks! I am thinking about selling them, but I have to figure out how I could make it strong enough and able to dissasemble. If not, it would only be able to ship freight. Its all one piece. I think I could probably built it a little lighter than this one, i planned to overbuild on this one. its 1.5" square tube, 1/4" wall w/ 1/4" plate gussets. each corner has 12 welds and i welded on the casters too.
maybe it would have to be a New england only item!
Im also thinking about welding up one over the winter and taking it to car shows to sell.

Way overkill but whatever works
The bumper connecting rotisseries are fine because anyone planning to flip a chassis on them will have it stripped. The car as you've pictured weighs under 600lbs, so theres no risk of stressing anything

wow its that light? I didnt really have any idea how much the body weighed by itself. If thats true, I certainly did overbuild it! but i will be working under it, so good for piece of mind.

I scrapped a shell that stripped. Myself and two friends picked it up and carried it onto the trailer. Not saying it wasnt heavy lifting it be hand, but not what was expected considering it was a car

Re: Custom third gen specific body cart-pics!
I will be posting some more pics, but not of that one soon. I have to put the t-top TA aside for the moment and work on another one first. The blue formula in the backround is going to get restored first. The one on the cart I have to roll into the barn for a while until I have some more items for the project. Im going to start a total resto thread on the 88 formula next week. Its an 88 formula, 350 TPI, posi rear. Im going to restore it to all original except that im going to swap the later brakes into it from an 89. I might also do a different or even non-factory color. it was originally the electric blue, but someone painted it a terrible pastel blue.
