Matte Black airbrushed decals on Gloss black paint?
Car is progressing....slower than I hoped but progress is progress. I've begun to think about paint. I know I'm keeping the car gloss black. All UMI parts are gloss black, Baer Brakes are gloss black, but the Rushforth Rated-X's are matte black. I'm thinking about having the decals airbrushed on in matte black to help the contrasting wheels to fit in. What do you guys think that will look like?

I love the idea... actually tried to play with it on mine with plasti-dip to try and get the feeling to see if I would really like to paint it on.
Hard to see it here, but the wheels, emblems, and teal in the vents are "dipped"

I am sitting down with the airbrush artist next week. He is working on some designs. Going to add a touch of silver and white to the bird decals and make them a little larger than original. Body shop is looking at late November to early December before they can get it in. That should give me plenty of time to finish all the mechanics.

Do you treat the matte any differently than the gloss when it comes to polish/wax/etc. ?

Re: Matte Black airbrushed decals on Gloss black paint?
Yes, you cant polish it or wax it. Polishing it will remove the peaks and valleys which will eventually remove the matte effect.
Waxing will do the same thing over a long period of time. Short term effects of wax on matte is that it fills the valleys and shines the peaks and makes it appear less matte.
They make matte sealants that are used over matte to protect it. There are also matte waxes and quickdetailers as well as washes on the market.
That being said, In order to prolong the uniformity of your matte finish for as long as possible you want to stay away from any product that you are used to that enhances the shine on a vehicle. Many car washes, quick detail, polish, wax, spray wax, ect...
Many company's have specific lines out for matte finishes. SwissVax being among the best I have used. Dr. Beasleys is another great company that specializes in protecting matte finishes. There are also various other brands that cover matte in their lines like chemical guys, wizards. There is a product that Mercedes sells for their factory matte finishes called magnonight, I am not 100% sure on the spelling.

That could be a great idea, if executed correctly. A very subtle style. I like it!
