Build thread, saving an Iroc
Hi everyone, I wanted to take some pictures and start my own thread. I'm doing a major restore on a classic. Never been this deep into a car before but I think I can handle it. Dropping in a 350 TPI speed density setup as soon as I get the rust handled. Here's a few pics.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Got the drivers side inner fender and small section of drivers side firewall hacked out and ready to weld in. (pic1)
Pic 2 and three are of the poor sacrificial lamb as I get closer to getting the floorboards completely out. I'm drilling out every spotweld as I go and dismantling it piece by piece. When I'm done with the donor RS it will definately fit in the back of my shortbed pickup

Good looking job. You're definately getting the most of the donor car. Just curious, why didn't you just build the donor? I'm assuming cause the other is an IROC.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Yes, the other is an Iroc with a title. The donor was a 91 RS without a title, some rear-end damage on both sides, rotten/bad windshield channels and wrong color. Believe it or not I think I can get away with no paint work on this build except for nose and hood. All rear quarter panel work and rocker work will be hidden by the ground effects.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Finally got the complete floorboard out of the donor RS. The pile of rubble pictured is almost ready for the scapyard. Been focusing on donor car because of rain/rust. Now I can get to work on the keeper.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Well good news and bad news.....
Good news is I have been hitting it hard after work almost every single night until 9-10pm. I now have all the floorboards completely replaced and welded in, firewall done, front and rear fender wells replaced, inner and outer rockers also done, quarter panels repaired. This baby is ready to start going back together. just doing some final priming, seam sealing, and undercoating. Now the hard work is done the pace will really pick up speed.
Bad news is I don't have a fancy phone and didn't get squat as far as pictures when I was in a "zone" the past couple months working feverishly to get this mountain of a job tackled. I will get some completed pictures of the floor soon though.
More updates soon to come now that I'm picking up speed!

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Got most of the interior in, ECM and repinned harness done, doors on, fenders on, engine bay ready for an engine, got the 350 tuned port prepped to drop in tonight with F body fuel rail, new fuel rail crossover tube O-rings, new 22# injectors from south bay injectors, new crossover tube gaskets and valve cover gaskets.
I'll swap tailshafts tomorrow and plan on dropping in this weekend.
Can't put the rearend in until I figure out if the fuel pump I installed from the 92 RS donor car is high pressure or not.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Got a little too exited and dropped engine and tranny in tonight! Tight fit but it's resting in it's new home. I got a few crappy phone pictures of engine dropped in, dashboard back in, and ground effects going back on.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
Thanks for the tip on water pump. I switched it out.
Now, thanks to alot of help from TP, I have dizzy and coil wired up, injectors wired in, headers bolted on, and I think all the vaccum routing and sensors I need hooked up are done. Just got to do a little searching and figure out if MAT is needed , what it looks like and where it's at if needed.
Tomorrow will be final wiring hook ups, spark plugs and wires, and motor mount bolts.
Here's a couple pics of engine bay progress.

Re: Build thread, saving an Iroc
The mat is needed, on a tpi car it has a pigtail to make it easier to connect after the plenum is on. the mat goes in the 3/8 npt bung under the plenum. if you are hacking the vette harness the same connecter as the cts in the front of your intake.

Might be firing this beast up tonight. ( maybe) I'm not 100% sure I have the right pressure fuel pump yet. I'll know tonight or tomorrow. Once that's established I'll be able to stick the rearend up in her!

It runs and she sounds like a beast! Open headers are friggin awesome. Sounds like I have a nascar in the garage. Lots of help from Tuned performance to get to this thing converted to speed density, tuned, and running.

Well it's far from perfect and still has some bugs to work out but here's a couple pics of a reborn 89 Iroc with fresh floors, firewall, shock towers and wheel wells, and a complete transplanted 350 TPI motor and vette tranny.
I drove it just a little bit and friggin LOVE it!

Awesome job! Just got my new engine fired in my Iroc that I pulled out of a local junkyard. Your progress was much quicker than mine. Great work. BTW, we all receive help from Brian. lol
