proud owner of a 83 ta resto project

im getting ahold of a blown 350sbc incased in a 83 t.a
motor work ima have my father help me build a 388 low compression stroker with a turbo

I have 6 spots of cancer on the body tho
(got interior out of a 89 to swap out (I plan on changing the dash it I don't run into issues ))
back to the cancer
front left driver side where your left foot goes
front right where the right foot goes ...lol
back left (patched but cheaply (wana redo properly )
back right smallest spot
and inner fender wells infront of the tires (foamed patch with bed linnerpaint (wana redo also ))
any ideas on how to address the rust ?
I suspect my inner rockers will need repair also
I wana bring this car back to its glory on the body in interior
as far as motors go ... hell shal breakith loose lol
tranny is a outlaw 4 speed a/t

any sugestions other than get a new body
as far as interior goes how hard will it be to swap a 83 dash (minus cluster)
with a 98 dash (scored on the dash cover tho )

car will be painted a deep deep red metallic I have gts ?? (I think there called snowflake rims but there the deep dish I have the set for 83 and 89 )

Re: proud owner of a 83 ta resto project

Rust repair is pretty simple.

Cut out the bad stuff, hit the rest with rust converter, weld a plate, bondo it, paint!

I went from:

to:

With a little help from some southern friends

And with *cleaned* the carpet back in... would you believe me if I said it was nastier?

Thats some nice work. But, every time i see all these rust fix pics, it always makes me happy I live in Arizona and my car spent its entire life in California before coming here. One less thing to worry about.

The digital dash?
My dad said his new Berlinetta 8....3? had it, took girls for a ride and its fanci-ness made them want to go home with him.

So whatever that information is worth.

As for the rust, rust is rust. Get yourself and angle grinder and get rid of it. Hit the rest with converter, weld a plate if needed, bondo, paint.

Pics would reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally be helpful for those of us that are far away

Re: proud owner of a 83 ta resto project

it'd be great to see a good condition 2.5L car running around, especially at carshows. I think it'd be really slick for someone who originally had the 4 banger to swap in a late model ecotec turbo or supercharged engine, such as that from the saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice.

Re: proud owner of a 83 ta resto project

c230 kompressor(<~supercharged in german) motor and drop it in but a heavy Pontiac like those needs a v8 lol

Re: proud owner of a 83 ta resto project

Congrats on your new ride. Nice to see another early third gen here. I gotta hand it to you guys who tackle rust issues. Us desert rats have it easy in that department. We mainly have to deal with replacing all the cracked and dried out plastic pieces.
