What to paint

ok so I have an 87 Camaro that I would like to repaint myself. I have auto collision for two years so I know the basics of painting but we have always used waterborne high dollar paints.
I would like to use my garage to repaint it I would obviously tape it clean it ect. But I am unfamiliar with all of the acrylic paints. what would be the best bang for my buck I guess you could say. I have two filters close to my gun and im using a LVLP gun with a 7 gal 2 hp compressor.

Thanks for reading

Did it in the garage, used a finishline 4 HVLP and an older 60 gallon compressor.
Sprayed Limco single stage urethane.

If I was just doing one paint job, I would do all the prep and then take it to Maaco and pay for a middle of the line paint job. By the time you factor in paint, equipment, TIME, aggrevation etc it is the way to go... For me, I plan on doing a fair bit of painting in the future so that's why I fronted for the equipment.

There are a few changed I will make for next time.

Re: What to paint

I don't think I would attempt spraying a car again with a under 5hp compressor.

Maybe your gun has a lot less cfm requirements than mine but I had to take a few breaks with my 3hp pump, 60 gallon HF compressor.

Do not buy any paint from paintforcars. The car will look like a chalkboard within a year.

Re: What to paint

My compressor is a 5 horse and even then I had to take breaks to let it catch up, which isn't good for keeping a wet edge as you spray.

Re: What to paint

I painted mine in my garage. Came out awesome. I used starting line hvlp primer and paint gun with a 5 horse 60 gallon tank. The paint and primer I used was Summit Racing two stage Flame Red High Solids. Three coats of base and three coats of clear. First time I ever painted anything in my life. No drips and show quality. Took top 50 out of 2100 cars at car show. Be sure to cover everything as the overspray finds its way into every nook and cranny.
Good Luck!

Re: What to paint

Your compressor isn't going to be able to handle a full paint job. I once made the mistake of trying to prime about 3/4 of a car with a compressor similar to yours. It took a long time. If I had been spraying clear and need to keep a wet edge it would have been hopeless.
