Firebird Formula hoods

Is there anyway that the scoop for the air inlet on the turbo hood can be opened. What is the real name for the formula offset cowl style hood because I was looking for new one not that I need a new hood I just wanted one for a V6 bird or base 305 bird because I don't like the Camaro and Firebird hoods with no form of hood scoop because they look to wide and flat like a taco without some form of hood scoop. but all I can find is ram air hoods which I will get for my Formula or ZL1 or cowl induction hoods but no turbo style hoods.

Thanks

Hi, the plate can be removed. 4 screws and you can remove it. There are perforated plates that you can place in place of the solid ones.

Used hoods show up on ebay from time to time. Hawks has one at the time being:

Re: Firebird Formula hoods

Has the price went up that much for the formula hood or are they just very proud of it?

Re: Firebird Formula hoods

Hawks is just a monumental rip-off. Paid $75 for the last Formula hood I bought (a year ago). Last one I sold before that went for $150, and it took a few years listing it on Craigslist before it found a new home. $500+ is highway robbery. Not sure how they can sleep at night taking advantage of people like that.

Or their $400+ panel cuts plus $50+ for shipping a small box of said panel cut!

Just sold one about 2 weeks locally for 75.00. Like Drew said, 75-150 is the going rate.
Anything above that is ridiculous.

I did this a few months ago; removed the solid plain black plate and used it for a template to cut out this piece of heavy gauge aluminum screen. I was surprised at how much heat pours out of there.

I got the screen from some scraps laying around work; you could probably find some at a metal shop, or maybe Home Depot possibly.

Re: Firebird Formula hoods

^^^ Looks Good! ^^^

I kinda miss the bright look. I used "Gutter-Guard" for awhile, then switched to the 82-84 honeycomb screen. Variations on a theme...

Yes, almost unbelievable, especially if you have stainless steel headers.
