*Pic Request!* Firebird Sunoco Cowl Hood

Does anyone have pictures of a Sunoco style cowl installed on an 82-92 bird? My Google searches only seem to being up the pictures on VFNs website. Trying to decide if it is too much hood for the look I'm after and I need to decide on the hood so I can get ready for paint!

Gotta hand it to you, still bitching about a junk hood after 10 years... That's dedication. I just don't know that you needed to bump five threads from the archives to make it known. Most people around here use the "New Posts" link. Read it once, OK, read it five times, it starts to seem petty instead of a valid review. I believe you, but you're watering down your own message.

Most of his posts are about his hood experience, with a few other bumps of old threads to ask unrelated questions... I give him credit for using the search, but sometimes, sometimes, it's ok to start a new thread instead of replying to one that has been dormant for half a decade. Maybe I'm just hard to please...

Only have pics of the Camaro version. Maybe that'll help.

No sir. I've got an itty bitty 2" GlasTek hood. But it does fit the Air Gap manifold and a 14 x 4" filter case. Plans are to complete the installation with a pan and gasket to seal it off.

the Sunco hood looks awesome. I was planning to use it on my 91. I hadn't heard it was a bad quality hood. was that just a 10 year ago issue?

Glass hoods are seldom a bolt on and paint type deal. To one person, having to work on the hood to make it fit, is no big deal. To the next person, that kind of thing is such a big deal they will hold a grudge a decade or more later.

Waiting on the reply to that...
But yeah, the GlasTek hood needed some trimming. Something I was prepared for but others might not be. I haven't gotten into what it would take to prep for paint but then again I'm the kind of guy that can tolerate the gelcoat for as long as it holds up. Personally, I always kinda liked the flat black hood treatment.

Re: *Pic Request!* Firebird Sunoco Cowl Hood

c'mon, glass hoods don't need any werk…. u just bolt em on....

I've never heard of a bolt on glass hood, they all need werk (if u want them to fit), just like the asian steel ones, except they weigh a lot less

Re: *Pic Request!* Firebird Sunoco Cowl Hood

Agreed. They'll need varying amounts of work depending on manufacturer. The hood I'm running from Showcars Body Parts weighs only 28 lbs (painted and strengthened with more resin) (Weights a hell of a lot less than the stock steel Trans Am GTA hood, that's for sure), but my dad and I needed to add more resin basically all around the perimeter of the underside of the hood, to make it as strong as it wanted to be. Aftermarket fibreglass hoods are not bolt on, paint, and go. They will need at least some work to make them fit close to stock. Some more than others.
