Wonder if

Wonder if anyone has cut a firebird rear quarter panel to allow Camaro tail lights. Now don't get offended by the question.

Re: Wonder if

Pointless but possible. Easier to put a firebird front end on a camaro body

Such frankenbuilds have been done since the beginnings of cars being customized, , , and TBH I've never seen a one of them that looked good.

So ya can call me; "Not offended, nor Impressed" ........

Re: Wonder if

So if I have a badly damaged Camaro and all I have is a firebird parts car. I could make it work. Also if a person couldn't find a Camaro and have a firebird, they could change the front end parts and modify the rear lights to the Camaro and it would not look odd

Re: Wonder if

the fronts have been swapped

but the rears...

I think
1. the wheel arches are a bit different.
2. the sail panels are also different
3. rear side markers are also very different
4. Key / bumper mounting is also different...

i
m not sure bit i think the body line is differet too......itd take a lot more wok than swapping a front for it to look good....

Re: Wonder if

1989karr I see what you were talking about. How the Camaro sail panel and the quarter panel flow together. The formula panels have like a leveling off before it continues down

In THEORY you can section the quarter like 1 - 2 feet from the end... but again, I feel the body line that goes above the side markers differ on the cars.

Re: Wonder if

As was stated, the body lines and wheel well openings are different. The Firebird rear fender/quarter panel has a body line shoulder that extends from the front side windows down to the very bottom rear edge where the C-pillar terminates to horizontal at the rear hatch opening.

The section right next to the taillights on the sides may be the same so it might work for a small patch panel to allow for the Camaro tail lights. However, using the whole side/rear quarter panel would not work.

Also, even if you were able to bondo up the wheel wells, the C-pillar is curved out more in tumblehome than it is on the Firebird due to the body character line. Anyway, even if you could do it, Camaro style wrap around tail lights would look kind of goofy on a Firebird. That’s more of a Camaro styling feature.
