replacing rear wheel cylinders. F@#$%! HELP

Ok,

First, i break a return spring and have to go back to the parts store to get a new kit (that i knew i should have got in the first place but didnt).

Then i drive back to the parts store to have the rotors turned, have to leave them there and come back. 4 trips to the store so far if you're counting.

I expect while waiting for the drums to get turned i can throw everything back together. WRONG of course, i cant get the damn fitting to the drivers side loose and end up resorting to vice grips to break it loose and get it out of the brake cylinder. (replace the line. hell no, i'll vice grip it back tight... this rear will be disc before i do this Shiznit again!)

Removing the leaky cylinder. This is a pain! I end up using two screw drivers to get the retainer clip out and I finally remove leaky cylinder.

Should be easy to put the new one back in right? again, WRONG. I can't get the clip on the new cyl for the life of me. So i check the net and see there is a special brake cylinder retainer clip tool (because the snap ring plyers i have dont open far enough to place it over the new cyl.) ---

I spend another 10 bucks on a new tool that of course doesnt work. I have to wait 1 day to get it and i pick it up this morning. Tonight, i try to use this special tool to put the retainer clip on. No. it's crap, and it doesnt work. it will spread the clip but i cant get the clip far enough down onto the back side of the new cyl for it to "clip" in. nothing else works.

o yeah, and i slice my finger open on the new tool because an idiot designed it with a razor sharp retainer clip on one end of it. (wait thats not all) - I'm out of hydrogen peroxide too!!!

I will try c-clamps tomorrow to get the clip to snap in.

WTF! -- why does everything i do with cars always have to take 3 times as long and cost 3 times as much as it is supposed to!!!!!!! I should have paid someone to do this. I have been reminded that I hate nothing more than brake fluid. NO, not even axle grease! I hate it. hate it. hate it.

Screw it all.. anybody got a disc rear in Phoenix for sale? all i've said all night is mother F!

O! and what special wrench am i going to have to go buy to get to these bleeder screws? (more swearing) or am i going to have to get brake fluid all over me and a socket instead of neatly hooking up some hoses and auto bleeding them? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARG!

btw, german cars are so much easier to work on! at least everything is metric and the engineers took some thought into service issues down the road........ Porsche, there is no substitute. Not even a lovely thirdgen.

ok dont attempt to reuse the old clip (im assuming you arent, but i thought i would say that just in case)

place a screwdriver handle or something in between the axle flange and the cylinder to hold it in place. use 90 degree angled pliers to stretch it and get it at least partially on there. after that you can use a flathead screwdriver or punch to tap it all the way in. get a handsized mirror so you can see what you are doing. it should click...as long as there is no in & out movement it is on. you will have a little side to side movement....
