I am about to start bleeding the brakes tonight when I finally get my banjo bolts, but I don't see any way I'm going to get a wrench onto the WC bleeder screw with a hose on there... The service manual mentions a special tool, but what do you guys do?

I searched and couldn't find an answer, can't believe no one else hasn't had this issue?

Crack it open with a 5/16 socket then put the hose on it and use the hose to turn it open further.

I'm not worried about opening, I'm trying to figure how to close it at the bottom of the pedal travel w/ a hose on the nipple. I won't be able to get my 5/16" deep socket on there w/ the hose on, and I doubt I'll be able to turn it by the hose tight enough to prevent air from getting back in...

You should be able to turn it tight enough by hand to prevent air from getting back in, then tighten completely after the hose is removed. If you need a better grip try running the hose thru the socket?

your not supposed to take the hose off. mine has a bleed point on the caliper. it was hard to get to but i never had to take anything apart. just busted a few knuckles lol

everytime i do one i use the socket and rachet to losen it up, then i leave the socket on, and open and close the valve with my fingers, let the brake fluid squirt out the hole in the socket, just leaves you with a little mess to clean up thats it

well the plan is to vacuum bleed, so not sure that would work well. i'll try to run the hose through the socket, and turn it by hand when done.

If you're vacuum bleeding there's less concern about air going back in. As you bleed, the vacuum is going to pull air into it from a loose connection/the threads around the bleed screw/etc. You'll probably want to connect the hose directly to the bleed screw and turn it by hand until you get the fluid flow 'right' and it's still going to pull in extraneous bubbles. A little silicone sealant around the bleeder screws will help too.

When it's not under vacuum the bleed screw, if open, will gravity feed brake fluid out. Air getting back in is really only a prob when working the brake pedal.

Do you have a crescent wrench? If the hose won't fit through the opening in the wrench you could just thread the hose through a box wrench and leave it on.
