brake problems.

hey guys, so i was needing to redo my brakes (front and rear), because the rear brakes werent functioning, and thefront ones were taking a beating. im working on the rear ones, and the piston wouldnt go back into the caliper to get it back over the rotor with the new pads, so i took it apart like it says in the chiltons manual. taking the piston out of the caliper and there are springs and a screw-type mechanism inside the piston. there is no mention of this mechanism in the chiltons manual. so now i need to get the piston back in, but i dont have any clue where to get the tool to reinstall the piston. and when i look for new parts at rockauto, theres no parts to repair this screw-spring mechanism. whats up with my calipers?

note, the right rear piston was out pretty far and it wouldnt stay out when i kept my foot on the brake and it hardly moved, and the right left was in pretty much all of the way, and i still couldnt get the caliper with new pads over the rotor.

this car has had a ton of work from previos owners, so im really not sure whats up with anything on it.

this is for an 1987 IROC-z with 5.7

any help will be GREATLY appreciated. thanks guys.
