CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

Searched for a conclusive answer for quite a while and decided to see for myself

14" C6 Z06 rotors are out, atleast for 17" wheels. Must use the C6 Z51 13.4" rotor

Here are pics of a 14" rotor in a 17" corvette wheel using the standard 2" spacer

Its actually touching the weights

To clear it took another .5" of spacing, but even then it didnt even have 1/8" of clearance from the hoop of the wheel. Hard cornering will flex the wheel that much, Ive seen it on our FSAE car. Besides, the combined spacer distance is nearly 3". 2" spacer, .26" rotor, .5" shims. Hard to fit that under the wheel well

18" corvette wheels clear the 14" rotor just fine. The CTS-V caliper is tapered already to clear the Cadillac wheel, so grinding a little wont afford any more clearance on 17's

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

Pocket, you're right ... check out this thread:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/brak...er-swap-6.html

Dewey did it under 17" wagon wheels. Had to use a 13.4" Z51 rotor. As far as I can tell, he's the only one who's done it. I emailed ebmiller about buying a bracket (I run 10 spoke ss wheels) but I never heard anything back.

Z51 rotors are on order. Just had to see for myself if 14"s were at all possible

Are you able to make your own bracket? I pm'ed Dewey about it too and he said the only thing to look out for is the pad has about 1/8" of it's surface that won't touch the z51 rotor.

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

I didnt notice any pad surface hanging over the rotor. If anything the rotor is still bigger than the pad

The CTS-V/13.5" rotor bracket and printer scale. Notch is to clear a web on the caliper. If that web is ground down, the notch can be omitted

Redesign of the LS1/12" rotor bracket. Also works for the CTS-V caliper on 14" rotors

A friend of mine is doing a hybrid upgrade on his LS1 car too, so I figured someone may use this in the future. LS1 caliper/13.5" rotor

All work best being 3/8" or thinner

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

hey pocket, thanks for the drawings, those will help out a lot.

question.. more of comment question. those CTS-V calipers are upside down/or mounted in the back of caliper, note the bleed valve position, this is due to the CTS-V having the calipers mounted forward of the rotor.

Now as i understand it, the new Camaro 10/11 SS calipers are the exact same caliper, with the exception of the caliper being mounted as your picture, with the bleed valve on top since that how the Camaro's are mounted..

Is this going to be an issue if the bleed valve is upside down?

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

The one in the pic is upside down. I loaned my pass side to a friend to mock-up on his car along with one of my rotors

Bleed valve points up in all cases. Hard to bleed with it pointed down

Camaro calipers have a larger hole, so either use a shoulder bolt or drill/tap the bracket a bit larger. The hose connects to the upper boss on the rear so you can use the stock brake hoses instead of the 1LE hoses like all other brake upgrades require

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

any modifications for the rotors at all? do you have to use a custom hub?

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

Mod the hub like all brake upgrades, mod the spindles, custom bracket bolt it all together

Stock Z51 rotors, stock CTS-V calipers, stock 1LE lines

I believe you can actually just remove the bleeders and crossover and just swap them from end to end. All holes are the same size for the bleeders and the crossovers.

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

Do you make those ls1 brackets for the 13.5" rotor? I am doing the ls1 upgrade and would love that size rotor as long as they clear 18" wheels. Also what rotor is 13.5 the Cadillac?

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

I dont make any brackets myself. The drawings are posted so you can build your own

13.5" rotors are the C6 Z51 fronts with heavy duty brakes. If you're already using 18" wheels, go ahead and get 14" C6 ZO6 rotors

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

So those brackets will let the ls1 calipers work with 14" rotors?

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

Is that picture with the 13.4 inch Z51 rotor installed or is that the 14 inch? From everything I have read there is at least a small amount of pad hanging off, I am assuming you have driven this setup by now? Any feedback?

Anybody know if these calipers are still available new?

Re: CTS-V calipers and 17" wheels

Talked to a CNC shop today and they said if I brought them a cad file they could do it and it would probably be about 80 bucks for a pair so the more I have them do the cheaper it would be. Still need to see about getting the questions above answered before I go for it.
