factory upgraded brake conversion
a guy parting a car locally has the performance brake option on his rear end.. i have the stock disc option on mine. i was wondering, do i need just the bracket to make those calipers fit? i am of understanding that the rotors and pads are different so im excluding those from the question.

Yes, you need the backing plates (along with all the other components, to include the combination valve).
Here's the how-to:

They are fron an 89 gta disc brake rear. The calipers look like this http://m.advanceautoparts.com/mt/sho...461%7CL3*15684
Idk which is pbr's and stuff like that.. Im a noob to this subject.. Is it worth upgrading? The guy wants 150 for the brackets and calipers

The set-up would be from a 9-bolt in 89, so if you have a 10-bolt, the backing plates won't fit (though the correct plates can be purchased). If your car is equipped with drums, you'll need to modify the axle flanges or buy a hassle-free kit from the following site:
http://www.flynbye.com/
The upgrade is worthwhile.
You'll have to pull the axles:
