89 Firebird Rear PBR dust shield direction?

89 Firebird Rear PBR dust shield direction?
I am reassembling my rear axle which has factory PBR aluminum calipers. It also has dust shields which apparently are not standard (I have seen other factory 89's without them.)
My question is, which way does the lip of the shield face? I cannot get clarity in the FSM, which seems to show both ways per the attached.
Also, the inner backing plate that the dust shield attaches to and the calipers bolt to has a slight bend in it which probably matters.
Does anyone have a pic of their factory setup for these?
Thanks!
89 backing plates
slight jog in the caliper mounting bracket facing away from lip.
Backing plate facing in?
Backing plate facing out?

9 bolts have the shield, 10 bolts did not, but the bend on the edge faces away from the rotor. If not, it will contact the machined surface. Also the bolt spacing on the top differs from the two lower bolts, so if you put one on the "wrong" side even with the bend facing away from the rotor the holes will not line up.

Not all 89s have the dust shields. It was a mid year 89 change.
I have 2 89s about 4k car apart by vin and they have the early and late parts. There was a tsb about the early thin 2 piece bracket and the moan it had while backing up and turning while applying light brake pedal psi. That prompted the change to the thicker 1 piece bracket
Picture is from this site. Lip faces inward
