1991 Z28 T-56 Swapped for Sale
1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
$7000 OBO
I’ve been the owner for 3 years, purchased in 2016. Low miles, lots of recent maintenance. Previous owner was a body shop; they repainted it and drove it to local shows to promote the shop, which is all the miles that were put on it for about 10 years before I bought it. Since it was hardly driven for a long period of time, some of the components needed fixing/replacing to get it up to daily driver status, something I have steadily been working towards during the last 3 years. Car was originally an automatic, some previous owner had swapped it to a T-56 (6-speed) from a 4th gen firebird. Also, factory rear end has been (mercifully) upgraded to a Detroit Locker rear with 4.11 gears. Surprisingly, car will still do mid 20s for MPG despite the 4.11s, largely thanks to the T-56’s extremely long 6th gear.
Car feels very powerful, will easily spin the tires through a few gears from a stop. That being said, the BF Goodrich tires still have plenty of tread on them. Paint is in good shape, a scuff or two from being used but still excellent for a 25+ year old car. Underbody has little to no rust, again, very good for a car of this age and for a car famous for rotting floor pans.
I change the oil with mobile 1 full synthetic every 5k miles and wash the car on a regular basis. (only touch free carwashes or hand washes)
Recently (this year), about 50% of the time the car will run perfectly fine, and the other 50% of the time it will want to die off under any heavy throttle inputs. Not sure why that is happening, haven’t been able to determine the cause yet.
Also the shop suspected a possible worn input or output shaft bearing to be the cause of the vibration under deceleration at any speeds over 75mph. Price reflects known issues, it will go up if the issues get resolved.
Basic Info:
Original 5.7 TPI V8
T-56 6 speed swap
Detroit Locker 4.11 Gears (freshly rebuilt)
Original Radio with Tape Deck (can’t seem to get the tape player to work)
Power Drivers seat (works great)
Power Windows (don’t work so great, but have 2 new window motors that come with the car)
Working factory Air Conditioning
Catless Y pipe exhaust
Aftermarket chip tune (done by previous owner)
Parts that come with:
2 Distributor caps (one brand new, one used)
Airbag Control Module (removed because of an annoying buzzing sound it was making)
Distributor assembly (used)
Front speakers (speakers work, but radio wont output to them for some reason)
Dome light sensors for the door
2 new throttle body gaskets
1 new Oil Filter
Recent Maintenance:
Sway Bar End Links
Heater Core
Rear End Rebuilt by Valenti Classics in Franklin
Rear wheels, brake rotors and axles all balanced by Valenti
Intake Manifold Gaskets + all TPI Intake Gaskets replaced
Coolant Replacement + Bleeding
New Idle Air Control Valve
New Distributor + Cap + Rotor + Ignition Control Module
New Spark Plugs
Timing set w/ timing gun
Outstanding Issues:
Window Motors are weak/nonfunctional
Passenger seat recline is weak. Will recline under heavy acceleration with a sufficiently heavy passenger sitting in the seat.
Slow battery drain when sitting. Only really notice it if I don’t drive it for several weeks in a row.
Hatch seal can leak when subjected to pressurized water. Never seen it leak in rain or with just a regular garden hose
Clutch Fluid will sometimes leak where the reservoir tube meets the master cylinder
Reverse can sometimes be difficult to shift into. I’ve found that putting it in first and inching forward a bit seems to fix this
Vibration on deceleration at speeds over 75 MPH
Intermittent engine choking upon acceleration
$7000 OBO

Great, honest write-up. I am curious if you have any underneath shots? Mainly looking to see the rust level of the floor pans, rear body panel. Thanks!
