Dual vs Single

Dual vs Single
So I was looking at getting a new set of subs, and was wondering about the dual voice coil subs? How do they compare to a single. I mean would a dual be as good as a couple of singles. Would two duals be overkill?

GO with a Kicker substation. My buddy has an 8" in the hatch of his 90 camaro and it pounds hard than two 12's on a baffle board. For some reason and F-body is the ultimate enclose for one. Try it and you wont be disappointed.

you can also wire up DVC subs to whatver impedence (usually people use 2, or 4 ohms) you want to .. i can wire my subs to 1 ohm if i want to. DVC subs are also more versatile than single voice coil subs.

No they're not. If you have DVC subs with 4 ohm voice coils than you have to either run them series (8ohms) or paralell (2ohms) if you have another sub you can run them paralell-series running VC's in series and subs in parallel giving you a 4 ohm total load. The only reason to choose DVC subs over SVC subs or the other way around is if you have to run your amp at a certin ohm load. ya he;s right. pretty much if you have dual 4ohms you can do 2 or 8. and if you have dual 2 ohms you can do 4 or 1. they also make dual 6 and 8 ohms too.

Bull. There is no wayone 8 hits harder than two twelves and if the twelves are in a baffle board they suck. And if you compared the 8 to the 12 and the 8 hit harder than the 12's must suck.

although Rice whatever went about it the wrong way, if you were to compair an 8 and a 12 of the same line (like two type-r's 
), the 12 wouldnt necessarily hit harder, but hit lower. the larger cone area allows it to play lower frequencies. also, since the 12 does have a bigger cone area, it is pushing more air, so it could be hitting harder. but this is true when compairing equal subs. because there are deffinately some 10s that would give some of the 12s out there a run for their money....

I put a 10" tube into a friend's Trans Am and it hit harder than my 4 12s on a baffle board. Sounded way better too. I have no doubts that a good 8" sub in a good box will outperform 2 12s on a plate. None at all.
