Ok, right now I have a Labtec speaker system for my computer. It's got two satellite tweets and 1 rather small sub. In my dorm with cement walls and the sub under my desk it hits like nobodies business... Honest, it's loud and heavy. I need Winamp to cut the bass quite a bit just to have it sound good (not too bassy)
Any-hoo, the small sub (maybe 4 inchs... or smaller) in in a rather small ported box, about 8 or 10 inches square... when i turn the bass up, or the volume wayyyy loud, I notice there is a delay with the sub, almost like it can't keep up... at moderate volumes it's good... i'm looking to eliminate this and maybe make the bass tighter, so i was thinking I would make a box for it... Would an enclosed box do what I'm looking for? Or a different sized or differently ported box? Right now the sub is in a particle board box that has been laminated, with a single 3/4-1inch hole with a tub that runs back from the whole into the box for a good length...
I listen to stuff like death metal... Arch Enemy, Slipknot, Static-X, Fear Factory...
Can ya help me? or is this the best I'm going to do?

you're probably not going to be able to do better than the box it's in. The only way to get deep bass out of such small drivers is to use a multi-order ported/bandpass type enclosure that has 5 miles of port. If you just stuff it into a sealed box it's going to sound like a tv speaker.
