Aiwa suck as bad or worse then Sony. They are built like crap, skip constantly, and sound like a$$.

Funny you mention aiwa and sony together... sony owns aiwa..
They do have a tendency to skip..
There is one weird trait they take from sony, that is when you play to the end of the cd it doesnt start the cd over... you have to go backwards on the tracks to get to the beginning.... thats weird!

I have an aiwa headunit, skips alot and volume control is broken, anytime i want to turn the music down i have to press mute. It is good for the price, but think what you want. Do you want something that will last you down the road? Or do you want something that will just get you by, depends on your needs also. If your just going to be listening to music and not trying to hook up a nice system then it should be an alright h/u. My next h/u will either be alpine or pioneer, i have heard/ seen good things about them. Might want to check out them too.

I had an aiwa and it ate one of my cds. I would not recomend them. My advise if your strapped for cash is buy the cheapest alpine. You WONT be dissapointed with alpine.

I've seen 4-5 differenet AIWA CD players in cars, and all of them have sucked. If I was buying a new CD player, I would look at either Pioneer or Alpine. Or Eclipse if you really want to spend money.

Aiwa is sony's low end. Just let that comment sink in for a while. As bad as sony is, they have a "low end" product line.

What's sad is that it wasn't always that way. Back in the 80s and early 90s, a lot of Aiwa stuff was used as a testbed before the technology was released under the Sony name. I've got a 3 head sony cassette deck at home that sounds as good as any tape deck I've listened to under $800.

You’ll have to remind me, what did we disagree on. So many people disagree with me it’s hard to keep track sometimes.
It’s hard being right all the time.

I've used Alpine, Sony and Clarion, and they all stink. From here on out I use only Kenwood head units. They rock, my last two have been awsome. I know Pioneer isn't the best, but I use their speakers exclusively. I think that they have the best sound for the $$. I splurged on an alpine amp/sub/box combo. It's pretty good.

Alot of manufacturers are not making there products like they used to. That goes for most anything now-a-days. I've been told by repair shops that because you have a "name-brand" audio product doesn't mean you have internal parts that are top quality to the reputation of that manufacturer. In other words, generic parts. Be careful on those "good deals". You get what you pay for, most of the time. I have a $129.00 pioneer head unit, $59 pioneer 4x6 fronts, $70 sony xplod 6x9, 1992 model pioneer gm102 80watt 2 channel amp (hooked to the 6x9's only), and a bazooka 100w amplified tube in the hatch. The amp is good , for what it is, and the tube is good. Everything else sux!

bottom line is you get what you pay for. I wouldnt suggest anyone buy a head unit for 100.00 price range. Its just not worth it. It IS going to break, and give you headaches. Ive learned from experience. Live by the motto. Its true for alot of stuff.

you can get a kenwood 105 or 122 for about 100. they are MUCH better as far as longevity goes than sony or many of the other brands out there.

they lack any and all touchy feely bull**** features though.

as just about everyone else has mentioned, stay away from the aiwa and go with something else, like a clarion/alpine/kenwood/etc
