Trans It

The mast cable inside my power antenna broke, and my local dealer says the repair kit is no longer available. I have access to some salvage autos (3rd gen and other GM) and was thinking about getting a few used units that I can keep on hand for spares. Can anyone tell me what other GM autos used the same antenna as my '91 Trans Am? And sheesh, what a hellava antenna to remove, sucker is wired without a harness/connector too!

If I'm not mistaken the '82 to '92 are all the same. Even the camaros use the same one. Don't go used, either pay the $120 for a GM one or pay about $35 for an aftermarket one. Either one works well.

Trans It

Just tried an aftermarket 'universal' unit made by Metra (purchased at Advance), it would not fit. The Pontiac dealer mentioned something about a 'service' replacement unit for about $120, but seems like I read somewhere that those don't fit too well either. Apparently they are a liitle different than the originals, but I don't know that for sure. Not going to rule out trying one though. I've restored a few vintage Caddy antennas, including an early 80's Eldo that had a similar set-up as these (with riveted plastic gear housing) . Thanks for the info.

I plugged in the part number at www.partszoneonline.com, and it came up with "Cable". About the same price, so it might be the kit.

I ordered the kit from them about a year ago. Was easy to put in. Unfortunately, it broke again after using it for a couple hours. *shrug*. I gave up and just picked up a standard antenna from the local dealership.

I need to do mine but haven't gotten around to it. I didn't even know there was a kit available. As much as these things corrode I still think a new one is the best bet. Hell, they don't even paint the metal, it's just galvanized.

The P/N on mine is 22143385. It's not the original antenna so I'm not sure what the P/N would be for that one.The motor in mine quit so I bought this one from Dave Staubli of Third Gen USA( Third Generation USA - Welcome! ).he's a member here and a good guy to deal with.
I bought a power antenna used on '87-'91 Bonnevilles,Lesabres(not sure the body designation).It's very similar to the F-body antenna but would take many modifications for it to work.The one off the Bonneville at least use a black retaining ring and even the top of the antenna is black.
The repair kit mention above is probably your best bet if your antenna just needs to be repaired(ie;running all the time).Try Modern Day Muscle as they have the repair kits ( MODERN DAY MUSCLE - HOME ).

My antenna is not running all the time. It makes a noise when you turn the radio on, but thats it. I'm thinking the motor must have seized up. Winter project #1. Anyone know what the factory part number is and what other models will work?
