Painted my box
Here's my box all painted up.
Now all I need are two 12" subs and an amplifier. The subs will be inverted, so I want something with a decent looking basket and the amplifier will have to be no larger than 14"(W) by 13" (H). I have been thinking about using the 2004 model of the Alpine Type R's along with the new Alpine 600 watt amp. I'm open for other ideas that fit my criterea though.

I didn't build the box. As 18inchboyds said, I bought the box off of a guy who had it made for his 4th gen.
I'm taking the car to have the alarm installed on Thursday. While it's there I'll set 2 12w1's in and see if they will fit. If not I'll have to get myself some Alpine Type R's.

im sorry but it looks really out of place. Might look better in grey. Wall style boxes never look amazing unless done right though...

Car: on the hunt for a 3rd gen again
it looks awesome, but i dont' know how its gonna sound with the subs right behind your head. you'll be able to hear EVERY little imperfection in the subs sound, and it'll probably hurt your ears being so close, (it'll be louder though hehe) looks awesome again!!

Those Type R's should be fine. Make sure you have enough mounting depth before you buy.
The Image Dynamics ID12 v3 are good in a relatively small space.
You might find an Adire Audio that works, but they don't post recommended box volumes, and I'm too lazy to put the T-S specs into a program to find out.

I've got around 5 inches of mounting depth to work with, which is why I'm thinking about using the new JL 12w1's. If I go with anything else; like the Alpines, I'll have to invert them.

There was a guy who had subs inverted in his backseat like that. His looked cool cause the sub's basket matched the paintjob on his box. The W1's look like they will be great subs, since they are expected to be better than their old W0's. I'm also a JL Audio fan, but you may not get much low-end with the W1's for a couple of reasons:
1. You won't have enough volume for them to sound decent since your Qtc will be close to 1, and your F3 will be over 42 Hz. It's not much better with the driver inverted. 30 Hz will be almost inaudible.
2. Subs mounted in the backseat typically aren't as powerful as those mounted in the hatch.

Personally, I would suggest a set of Kicker Comp VR's
Unless you want to go with Inifinity
Polk makes a line of pretty good subs as well. (At least the ones we have on the floor sound pretty good.)

The more important thing at this point is picking a sub that works in 1 cf. You can't JUST pick a sub that sounds good. You could put a JL W7 in there, and it would sound like crap.

i say rockford fosgate punch stage 3 yea i know right when i send this some will flame on them saying all rf's new stuff is garbage but i think this years lineup well subs atleast not amps are very good and since i personally heard how they sound in a car well the p2 atleast and they were pretty loud i know the p3 will be make some loud clean noise o yea if you buy from sound domain go to pricegrabber.com and you can find then for like 150 then just have sounddomain beat the price and plus it's free shipping to and they only need .65-.85 cf so thats nice

I really like it because its alot different then what you usually see. This kind of unique style is found in car shows. The flames to me remind me of some serious audio baun drivers. ( hold your breath, I know how many do not like that brand. Try and keep those comments out of this thread unless invited by the thread creator ) The subs are kind of close to the front but sometimes thats good, sometimes its bad. I might keep it that way while its new but later I would try to find a way to move them back, then create a motor and a track so I can have them move forward only upon a press of a button. This way you can get to your storage areas. Have fun with it.

Well.. you were certainly right about the mismatched colors making things look terribly out of place.
I guess those wires don't really set it off too much either. Perhaps it's your choice of components. I guess we all have our tastes. Some our just a little more sour than others.
I don't know what to think of that broom stick. Maybe you could use it to clean up that mess you've got back there.
Anways, I'm sure the system you've got in your Oldsmobile looks much better.

ehhh Nobody is going to see it so I dont really care. Yours is more of a competition type fibergass box. I think it would look worlds better in grey cuz well....Your interior is grey.
Oh The reason why I didnt carpet it in tan to match was cuz like I said nobody will see it. And Im not asking for opinions.
You more or less posted looking for what people thought of it. I told you it would look better if it were the same color as the interior....The wires again nobody was seeing it. I didnt really care. They didnt spark or anything and were completly safe.(while not very clean looking...)
I know you guys bash sony for being unreliable but I beat up that system pretty bad for over a year and its STILL ALIVE(minus the amp cuz it was stolen). Check up on NEfbody.org or something. Firebird85 has it. Hell he might be on this board too..Not sure.

let us know how it sounds when you get everything hooked up. I don't think it really looks to bad, post somemore pictures
I just have 2 10's....and it's plenty loud for me...I couldn't imagine your set-up. When I did my stereo...I tryed to cover up everything...wires, carpet....anything that didn't match. So..I went ahead...and re-did the whole interior so everything would match:

I like the box coloring, personally. He has enough black panels and the gray flames kinda match the carpet. What is strange is the coloring of the seat and door upholstery don't match the carpet.

CNN came to my hometown, North Canton (home of the Hoover sweeper) and did a story about it which I got to be in. I ended up getting about 10 or so minutes on international television so it was pretty cool.
